Where was Echoes shot?

Post by tomway »

Was this shot at an one of the australian points, like Burleigh, or broken head maybe?

In this age of super-light tiny hi def video cameras, revisting the old Greenough footage, riding a board that barely floats, with an enormous 16mm film camera on his back... I don't think anything will ever draw comparison.

Cheers Bill, the Mat angle makes sense.
Can anyone confirm it is lennox?

Here's a still from the film with the point behind:

It's Lennox,
As far as I know he was on velo, shooting over the shoulder in Echoes and for most of the on wave-water shots in Crystal Voyager .
In the earlier movie-Innermost Limits of Pure Fun, again on a spoon but the camera was pointed toward the rear. Certainly easier to surf with without the off centre weighting. but only shots of where he'd been.
Given that this was shot with 16mm movie camera in a GG custom case it puts a new/old spin on go hero. Must have been punishing on some of those end shots in Echoes.
Pictures of GG with camera rig on mat appeared in relation to the water shots he did for big wednesday.

talking Pink floyd and surf movies
In a seventies mind ramble I thought george could've used the other side of Meddle as well, it was custom made for a 70's surf movie :D :D
'one of these days' would have made the classic opening soundtrack with corduroy lines to the horizon marching in to the beat of the reverb guitar
'A Pillow of winds' the beautiful offshore fun day
and later with 'fearless' as the all time backing for going out into some monster session.
San Tropez- bondi madness with lots of 70's bikinis
ending off with the all out after surf session to 'Seamus' complete with dog barking, falling off verandah from exhaustion and inhalation somewhere on the north coast of NSW kicking back with Nat
Riq de(Carvalho) Kneelo
change the only constant or the board is not the limitation

Thank Riq
:D Ha! I love your run down of the meddle playlist. It's also one of my favourite of the floyd albums. I was wondering how you were going to get Seamus in there but you nailed it

Tomway, definitely Lennox, though in the still you posted I don't see all the cars parked in the top car park ...

It's a fantastic wave. Whatever size it is it seems a lot bigger. Shame you can say the same thing about the crowd too.
