Hi all, this has probably been asked before but i have not found anything about it yet so here goes.
How far away should your deck pads be from the rail of your board? i dont get to ride with other kneelos so i havnt had a chance to check out other peoples boards.
In the old days, we used to determine how far back your knees would be by balancing the board (with fins in) on your thumbs. The balance point was where your knees would go.
find the wide point of the board by running a measure of some sort
90 degrees to the stringer up the board
start the top of the pads 2 inch behind that
from the rails if you sand the pads down (non commercial pad) you can put them as close as 3 cms from the rail
the general aim is to get knees shoulder width apart for stability & turning power
check out some photos & bruce hart had some good info on this
hey angie i have just seen the photo of the newey looks nice
need to see the bottom fin placement for a better idea of what will work
definetly move all the pads back 6 inches including rear & moove top pads out to natural curve lettering
i hope it rips for you
Hey Wanderer
Ill ask my fiancee to send me a pic of the bottom showing fin placing, i was also thinking the pads are a little close together, the shaper fitted them, so when i get home ill be sticking them wider and maybe further back.
thanks so much for the help.
I put my pads as close to the rails as I can without causing drag.
I sand the edges of my pads so they are really thin (1/8"-1/4") on the outside edges.

I do the same, and feather 'em all the way down to paper thin on the edge. Then I work wax all around to seal it and keep it from working loose. I use a 6" random orbital sander. never had one come up yet.
Thanks all for the advice and tips. iv felt the pads on my old board were a bit narrow and they have the same spacing as on my new board, but ill give it a try before doinf any mods.
