Help with rope adjustment using bridle with pulley

Hello, sorry if this is a stupid question, I am new to kneeboarding. I have a small runabout and I am taking the kids kneeboarding. I have purchased a bridle with pulley and a kneeboard rope. I know when you adjust the rope length to a centre ski pole, the excess rope no used just sits in the boat, but what happens with this excess unused rope when shortening on a pulley bridle.
