Anything is better than wall latex and the rattier the better in my book.
A good Sharpie marker will work and give some detail colors if needed.
How about a little tether with 2 beads for L. and 3 beads for XL
If mom is watchin, you could also put your name and phone number on the back of your fin in case you ever get lost in the water.
I did this one time with a rotary file grinder setup. I lost a fin while gettin out of the water one day. Some dragger fisherman called me over a year later from the phone number. He had dragged it up some 100 miles away and recognized the prefix, so he gave a call when he got in town. The fin must have been a teething ring for every large fish in the area
