Web Cam
Years ago, before these idiotic web cams, you had to physically go to the surf break and study it to see if it was going to be any good. You could assess the swell's potential, tide, wheather, etc. Now, any lazy kook from the convience of their computer can do this. And with these stupid cell phones, call all of their buddies and let them know about it.

True Mark. Back in the 70's we would just go, and be suprised with what Mother Nature in HB gave us. That was part of the thrill. Hell, I didn't even pay attention to tides let alone swell direction. We always went places without knowing. Always had a good time.
I do pay attention to storms now, because I have to drive three freakin hours, and the East side does get flat as a lake No exaggeration

Gee, I gues i`m stuck in the 70s.....Thanks Mike for making me feel old.... To this day, I don`t check tides, swell direction, cams or any of that stuff. I get up and decide where I want to go and go. I do listen to rumors of a swell though. Some days I have made the right choice and other days I didn`t. To me, that part of surfing
Every morning (unless it's raining or whatever) I go down to the water and look. Good - go in the water, bad - don't go in the water. But I admit as soon as I get to work in either case I log in to surfline ( I know, I know) and look at the waves. At lunch I look and see what the waves look like and right before I leave to go home I look again. It doesn't make any difference to where or when I surf but it's fun.
