Flipper Drag
Well said MOW,getta bigger board,& then get bigger flippers
Me- 5'4" x 21.5" spoon & Mares dive fins,called Power Planers
Gotta keep your wave count up,especially as those boards arn't the
best paddlers,as we know

George had the spoon out at Con yesterday afternoon/evening. Was hoping you'd be out.
Glassy, 3-5' long rights, bit slow inside the indicator but rivermouth was reeling.
Are you always taking off with one hand on the deck bodysurfing style? Or are you holding both rails and driving with the fins hards?
Bodysurfing it in seems the best for me so far, but maybe 6-8' rincon I'll grab the rails.
+1 on props for Vipers, Orange V5's are great for bodysurfing or spoon riding, on the flashpoint I prefer finless due to the pintail and drag.

I always thought about that...makes sense to me.jdc wrote:my flippers provide variable flex tail attributes...no drag

I didn't know that...anyways, I'm gonna paint RW with it.

quads vs. tri's...dude, do you really wanna open that can 'o' worms again?

I guess everyone missed the point - I don't feel any drag, not even an issue. I was pointing out how silly it is to worry about it, especially when my hand dragging on the face has tons more drag than fins in/on my wake. Lack of speed is not a concern.
Thanks for all the suggestions on fins. I have no problems catching waves with my old, cracking, wornout Churchills. I'll be soon surfing warm water for first time in 40 years and won't need booties so I'm looking at other fins.
As far as board being too small that seems like a universal opinion - even the guy who designed and built it told me
Masons - missed you at rincon, maybe next time. i would lke to see that spoon. Saw another guy out there on one(his first time) a few weeks ago. To answer your question I always take off with one hand on the deck bodysurfing style until the wave starts dragging me along, then both hands on rails and kicking to get in. My helmet cam videos show it

I set up my flexspoons just like I setup my rally car, loose with a lot of oversteer for powerslides.

I told him that was my target zone. For me it's the best spoon ever both in excitement and performance - it feels like I'm riding the wave and not a board. I guess that makes me a minimalist? You're riding a fine line between hauling ass and complete disaster - the board is too small for you

offroadbob - All my spoons have been 5' long except the first which was 4' 9" and width from 19 3/4 to 22. The black one in the videos is 5 X 19 3/4. It is the same board that's in the pic with yellow/white bottom.
The one TX is riding is 5 X 22.
5 feet 2 fit @ king con

Nah, I got the point. Just didn't want to drag up a bunch of crap again, and thought I'd take a more "PC" approach
BTW, I was gonna mention how the water flowing off the flipper on your outside rail gave the appearance of a flex tail...it looked functional to me.
