Knee Board
anyway, given that strapper has a strong marketing potential regarding the image of kneelos and Mike is a kneelo of skill has he ever, to anyones knowledge, been formally approached to push kneeboarding. At his shop in Ocean Grove (were I live) there are no kneeboards or any hint that the company owner rides them.
The hq shop in torquay would have to have huge potential to present solid tube and bells/winki riding image to the young holiday makers who rummage through the place looking to carve out their first surf experience.
i dont think ive ever seen even a small corner devoted to things kneelo like a poster or farrer flicks...sure a one or two at most, boards.
when I bought my first brand new board (1983) there were three kneeboards in the window and more on the racks!
Mike D just seems to hold the key to some serious exposure in the heart of the Australian surf industry.[/b]

Very true, if you look at the amount kneeboarders involved in the surfing industry, it is kind of sad that none of them have never kept kneeboarding visible to the masses, even on a small scale.
From successful surf shop owners/shapers, Professional Photogs, Surfing fasion industry leaders, through to the editor of major surfing publications. Kneeboarders have been riddled through the surf industry, over the years.
the surfing world made the decision that we are not marketable product along time ago, all these work positions listed above, are paid by the surfing world, why would you buck the industry that pays your mortgage/bills

You look at bodyboarding and see what it has morphed into.Once seen as the stepping stone to surfboarding has become its own solid entity/code. Guys in their mid twenties still on them.Videos being produced around the clock almost. Both my boys ride and compete on them.Their is never a session where there isnt a kid in the water or on land filming.Hell they even have bodyboarding wetsuits. The exposure the sport has got through marketing its like a magnet to the kids.Kneeboardings got a big door to kick down if its going to try and survive let alone grow.

I think they are talking about "aesthetic".Scott wrote:I'm genuinely ignorant, I'm afraid, of what you two--Albert and Steens--can see clearly. Just what is that "image" they see that turns them off? Please elaborate.
There is a reason every judge at the KSUSA Titles asked me if " Gavin" was coming... not "the Aussie"... not the "the guy who rides long boards with no fins"... but "Gavin".
They knew him by name because everyone of them "really enjoyed watching that guy surf.":?
Who doesn't?.. the guy rips... but if you were to sit down and do a critical analysis of our sport and try to figure out how the "Market it" and gain Visibility and Sponsorship and enthusiasm, you'd start with what's he's doing and work to emulate it on a mass level.
(I'm guessing here Steen and Albert, so forgive me if I've mis-interpreted you statement.)

.
In May '08 I met a young kneeboarder at J-Bay named Jed. He's from PE and totaly ripped! He was in college at the time so I know he was less than 25. He was taking off deep and going vert
. I didn't make it to Port Alfred but in reading about it I can imagine how good it gets there
