Saturday was fun... 4-5 ft beachbreaks in the early morning, then checked this little groin thing they have here, turned out it was this super super fun 3-4ft left hander very similar to south wall at ballina (for those that have been there). Surfed it for 4 1/2 hours, after 2 hrs I had to get out and call a friend to come and join me because I was bored of talking to myself since there was no one out the whole time. It wasnt epic, a light onshore seabreze was giving it a bit of texture but it was still fun.
Sunday was a little smaller, crowded when I first got there, but then the crowd left, it got better for about an hour, then the wind went the wrong way and it went to crap... all in all, about 10 hours surfing in two days... not bad considering I slept in both days...

Talk about poor surf,
Usually we get some big winter swells and the beaches start to produce good surf in September or October. Like last year, we get swells with 15' faces and they're gone tomorrow. Just enough to rip up the kelp and start the rotting process in the water producing coffee colored water that you can smell for a mile inland. Add some onshore winds and the lack of any good sandbars and you have classic Monterey California conditions. To make things worse longboarders come to surf the crap in droves, so you get the privilege of trying to surf in the middle of a log jam in rottin seaweed soup with marginal conditions.
I'm gonna go watch Timmy Turners new movie, Second Thouhgts, and dream up some good surf tonight in my dreams.
Hope you all are getting better surf than us here in Monterey. Later, T Hall.

We just ended 3 days of torrential rain and thunder storms.
Surf's knee to shoulder high groomed by clean offshore winds.
Water is muddy brown from all the run off and none to healthy to be in.
Unfortunately all the old septic pools over near V-Land are adding their bit to the run-off. YUK!
I've seen "Second Thoughts".
Those kids really scored great waves and charge it.
But to be honest.........they are blowing it big time.
When I started exploring Indo in 1978, I never did it in such a slack clueless, fool hardy manner as these dweebs.
With a little comon sense, it can be done cheap and with style.
There's untold, good, cheap, useful, campnig items available that make a world of difference to your health, hygene and survival.
Solar hotwater showers, waterproof matches and lighters, waterproof flashlights that don't need batteries, water proof gear bags, are available.
The fishing is outrageous out there. Pack a pole or a hand line. If you spear fish, the fish don't know what you are and swim right up to you. It's too easy....you can't eat the amount of fish you get.
You can buy all the fishing gear in Indo.
You can even have regular supplies run to you by the locals for next to nothing. They'll beg you to let them do just that.
No need to slaughter a goat at all.
Better still, rent a local fishing boat, live on it and surf more spots.
There's 13000 islands and many have INSANE SURF.
Many are as good asthe spots shown and they are makeable.
The Mentawai islands aren't the only ones worth gowing to.
You don't really need a charter opperation to get you there.
Simple things like "WEARING SHORES" at all times, so you don't get little cuts that will turn into HUGE VOLCANIC PUSTULES, is a must when living on remote islands.
These places are extremely dangerous. There are untold numbers of vermin, snakes, insects, wierd bacteria an virus that'll take you out the instant your guard is down.
Panaitan Island West Java, is where they go by the way........no big secret.
It's not even that remote!
There's daily tours that'll take you there from West Java.
You can stay on Java, cheap, eat like a king and surf more variety of spots for less hassle than these bozos put themselves through.
Nobody needs to grovel in the jungle like these boneheads.
Don't be fooled that they are pioneering feral soul surfers.
They are nothing more than clueless, deluded, selfagrandizing wannabe's, lamely risking their lives and selling themselves as underground surf heros.
Their foolish antics will spawn thousands of wannabe wannabes out there wanting to emulate these morons.
Many will suffer REAL harm from trying to copy this kind of bafoonery.
The surf media is completely irresponsible for promoting this.

I agree with Bud... I havent even seen the movie (only saw the trailer for it), and it put me off on trying to watch it. I havent even been to indo and I could tell these guys are just trying to milk the media.Bud wrote:Don't be fooled that they are pioneering feral soul surfers.
