what about an invirted 360. or a "clown around" (not quite a 540 rodeo clown.. think kelly slater).
that would hav to be a functional contest winning manouver, and what about the ooh ahh factor.

Well I must admit I have learnt a lot about 360s in this forum. The different types you can do on a kneeboard - and stuff I have never seen done before that sounds nuts.

And respect to the crazy 360 moves that people go for - as I said earlier - if it radical I like it. I think of Josh Kerr in the final of quicksilver pro on the Goldie - when he pulled an inverted roll using the nose of his board as a pivot point - awesome and I must admit in retrospect unfunctional. But I did like it - cause it was new - it was different. I oohed and aahed and replayed it over and over.

My original premise, poorly represented in a moment of sassiness is that I don't like spinners. They seem pointless and look silly to me. And that of course is entirely subjective as I have reiterated.

There are of course, as I have been educated, many different ways to skin a cat - some ways more functional - others more decorative.

And I also think surfers who live for oohs and aahs are the sort I've always found irritating - "showponies"

So If you don't mind me and a couple others not oohing and aahing when you spin around on the spot - as opposed to a giant inverted rodeo 360s and the like - you may all continue spinning free of harrassment.

Cheers lads

Great thread.

Spinner 360s
I used to do spinner 360's in the '70's. Going left, you stick your left hand in the wave to unweight the fin(s). You are sideslipping. Kick your butt out to your right. As the board spins counter clockwise, now going backwards, stick your right hand in the wave to continue the spin motion. The nose comes around and you are now going the 'correct' direction again.

Carving 360s
Never pulled one off, but have tried and seen them in vid's. Who has done one and how?

Sideslipping
Is an effective move to slow down for the tube on smaller waves. Out of vogue now, I suppose. I still do it now and then. The kickstall can achieve the same purpose.

I won't waste a 4ft face on a spinner, but might sacrifice a 2ft face. (-->A statement how little good surf I apparently get) Slashing, gashing power surfing is more fun for me. But whatever winds your watch...literally.

Maybe because I surf at Phillip Island I rarely surf tiny slop - so haven't developed any grovelly mush-moves.

I really think that is an issue for Island surfers - East-coast OZ kneelos seem to perform much better in smaller powerless surf than the Vicco guys.

I'm gonna go for a spinner ( when no-ones looking!) next time I'm surfing some slop - summers coming so we do get the odd day under 3ft. The way some of you guys talk - I'm really limiting my fun options - and I wouldn't want to do that.

Seriously though guys - I have never seen any of the kneelos or standups I surf with even attempt a spinner - its a lot more traditional power surfing down south - a bit more hardcore - no frills stuff.

Anyone else surf that growing swell at Wooly yesterday - man it grew from 3 - 6 foot in a matter of a couple of hours. Started off surfing the sets and ended up surfing the lulls.

Shaunsy.... Since I was probably your biggest opponet on this subject, I applaude your additude change. I don`t surf contest, just not my thing. I surf for ME. The guys I usually surf with are acustom to hearing me talk to myself when i`m surfing. I hoot and howler at myself. Just because I`M having fun. We each get our fun in different forms and I like to have as much fun as I can.... and I`m sure you do too...

Smells... One more comment about me being a clown and it will be you and me on the beach throwing punches. :D :D

No one I know has more fun surfing than Toofast. His spinners are a trademark and spectators like them as much as he does.

Yogi;

I use to do carving 360's daily as a young kid, at 90lbs and with hard handles on the board it was easy. This was done as a cutback and as an off the lip. The footies did take notice.

Smells;

You are going to have to line up for some whoopings and I don't even know why, I am just backing Toofast.

You're digging a very BIG hole and I dont think you'll be able to get yourself out of it
It was hard work climbing up but I made it.

Thanks for being such cool guys - I should have expected nothing less from kneelos.

I asked CPO to get out one more carving 360 before he retires. I think he has it in him. I think a 5ft right at Tamarack may be the canvas.

I have seen Zeke pull off a spinner at Cassidy St. And it put a smile on my face. 'Cause he got a big smile on his.

Good luck Yogi,

My vertical has been broken for quite a while and that is an essential part of bringing it all the way around.

Kava, let us know when you land one and how you did it. Now I want to do one before I retire. :)

ive had the most success doing 360s while floating a lip , then leaning forward and throwing the tail towards shore , completing the turn while freefalling...

torsion bars between the feet/flippers help tremendously with keeping control ..

a loose board is key.

Skan, not that it's important to label the move, but would you classify it as a carving 360 or spinner 360? Or something in between? Or a kind of floater?
