Beeline, the crowd situation will be helped alot if the swell has some consistency. Throw in some patience and good postioning and you can get some great waves. So maybe Thursday will be "lighter" The work situation cuts down our surfable window quite a bit for dawn patrols.
To me however, 2 to 3 set waves can last a couple of weeks, if you know what i mean
so I don't let the crowd bug me too much.

Point reyes buoy is 12.7@15..The north reefs are warbly-strange wind-everything is offshore except for this 10 mile stretch of coast. The shark bite area [most well known secret spot in cal
]will be doing it's thing.
Will surf the estuary-fun yesterday, nice clean, wally hotdog waves.
Generally when the city and those spots are grinding,This place will get fairly crowded,Being a long time local,I will get my waves
Hope to see some good pics from santa cruz on down.......
cheers

Good week!
Nor Cal (and probably So Cal) are in for a treat. Good swell and it's going to last awhile.
Thought I'd set the stage early for what we have planned tomorrow:
Jon Manss, Scott Wessling, Bob Schiff, John Mel, Don Harris (for sures)
David Noel, John Sieraski, Scott MacDonald, others? (maybes)
Plan: check the reefs on the way to town. Somewhere will be good. Whether we can coordinate with everyone is a differnet story!
Forecast: Light North winds and lot's of swell
.TONIGHT...N TO NW WINDS 10 TO 20 KT. WIND WAVES 2 TO 4 FT. W SWELL 8 TO 13 FT AT 15 SECONDS.
.TUE...NW WINDS 5 TO 15 KT. WIND WAVES 1 TO 3 FT. W SWELL 7 TO 11 FT AT 14 SECONDS..
TUE NIGHT...N WINDS 5 TO 15 KT. WIND WAVES 1 TO 3 FT. W SWELL 7 TO 11 FT AT 14 SECONDS.
.WED AND WED NIGHT...N WINDS 10 KT. WIND WAVES 2 FT. W SWELL 9 TO 10 FT..
THU...N WINDS 10 TO 15 KT. WIND WAVES 2 TO 3 FT. W SWELL 6 TO 7 FT.

Follow up...
Checked the buoys at 5 AM. Still solid swell and biggest at the Monterey buoy.
Forget the reefs and head straight to town to hook up w/ Scott, Bob, Jon Manss, Nick Hahn and John Mel.
Early SE winds were not helping things but Steamer Lane looked like a good idea based on the previous days report.
7 AM we entered the water and surfed mostly the Slot. Scott drifted to inside indicator and we soon followed. I tried for a couple second reef waves but it's really far out and couldn't line up with the 15 minute lulls between sets.
Rides were putting us inside to the first stairs so it was easy to pop up, change equipment and jump off the point again.
Knowledge goes a long way at The Lane. Jon Manss has it wired as does Scott and John Mel. Bob was throwing his 6'0 pintail around like it was a toy. Crowds were VERY light (20?) spread throughout the whole break.
As the morning progressed the inside peak was lining up great. The winds died and it got glassy.
3 board changes, 4 hours of surf and one very tired Don. Great day to try all the equipment and get things somewhat figured out.
Luch with Manss & Mel was a topper... 70 and sunny at the foot of the pier.
Hope this swell is treating everyone with just rewards.
PS> Bob WAKE UP!

Huh?
And YOU'RE one to talk! I ONLY surfed 2.5 hours...
Fun session! Nice to see everyone. I think a friend of Dave Noel shot some pix. BTW, Scott McD, it cleaned up a bit later on... nothing epic, but the lack of crowds really bumped it up on the fun-o-meter.
I AM tired!
As Syd said... next round, up here. I'm out tomorrow, but am thinking about Thursday and definitely Friday AM.

I am in for a thursday DP most likely mid beach. Swell is dropping a bit faster than predicted but still should be fun sized.
I just picked up a nice design job in Pacifica about 10 minutes from OB. It should go on through to the fall. We are going to do a major fish passage and stream restoration project on San Pedro Creek so now I have a reasonable excuse "Oh geese honey I have got an early meeting tomorrow morning
"
The 12 oz weight reps have been getting to me lately, so I need to get more water time in before Hawaii!! safety first you know.

Nothing like walking into the office around noon today, then sitting there in coat & tie taking care of little mini-crises. Here comes the nose drain--fortunately no one around to see me wipe it away. But nothing could wipe away my smile of having had such a fun day at the Lane with good friends (6 kneelos!) and tons of waves!
It's the way surfing should be!
Here's a lineup shot I took after I got out of the water:
