The current Surfing World mag has an interview with Andrew Kidman. Anyone that does not know the name, he made the films Litmus & Glass love. Very much into alternative boards. He has given enormous praise in his interview towards kneeboarding & their designs & mentioned such names as Stanley Pleskunis & Steve Lis, Michael Novakov & myself.
It is very positive & respectful towards kneeboarding & they even threw in photos of some spoons & a surfing shot of me throughout his interview.
He also has a limited edition hard cover book for sale at the moment called "Ether" which he again has given respectful homage towards kneeboarding. Its a bit pricey but has beautiful photography, art & music included with the book played by Andrew & co.
Anyway, the crew from surfing world mag. post Andrews interview felt that because he payed so much respect towards kneeboarding designs & riders they have taken the next step & contacted me for a interview. The current mag that is out now has mentioned the following,
While the wider community has always had an idea of what a surfer is like, usually based on an exaggerated stereotype like the Byron Bay "dole bludger surfie" that A Current affair rolls out every summer, surfers come from all walks of life. Whether they are bankers, musos, lawyers, pros, surf legends, shapers, school kids, footy players or car salesman, every single surfer has a story to tell.
Every issue we are going to interview six surfers who have something to say and though they may have totally different careers, motivations & experiences, the common thread is surfing. It is a presentation of surfing culture from all walks of life within the community.

Steen has joined me & contributed some amazing photos which we ( kneeboarding community) may have already seen but the main stream folk will not have. It has focused very much on my life & thoughts.
Fingers crossed I said something intelligent
It will be one page for the interview & across from it will be I think a full page split into two shots. So in total a double page spread.
Kneeboarding has & will be shown in two issues straight of Surfing World in a very positive way. 8)

To cool Sparrow 8)
For those that don't know Surfing World is the only publication in Australia that has retained any style and integrity and would be the closest magazine to Surfers Journal in the USA.
So for Simon and Steen to be featured in the above SW is no small thing (not that i'm surprised after the recent antics of these two, thanks for the shots/stoke fellas).

Kidmans book Ether is worth the coin. Great to read about Lis and the fish movement from some of the direct characters involved.

I got book number 60 in Febuary this year and nearly threw up when i saw the shot of Farrer doing about Mach 10 on a North Narrabeen Special. The words in the following chapter compliment the picture nicely.

Congrats on the up coming feature lads.

makes ya proud to be a kneeboarder don't it

Great Surfing is Great Surfing. Period. Great images are great images. Period.

To over look what the boyz downunder are doing would be poor judgement from anyone with a brain. The level of kbing and photos are great. They are a daily stoke for me!! 8) 8) Please keep at it.

YOU blokes are taking us and the future of kneeboarding to the next level. Soon a grom is gonna see those pics and it will light that kb fire, in the same manner GG started a "few" fires back when in some of us.

Com'on island boyz lets step up  We got dakine. (ouch that hurt! )

Thanks, McKnee!

paraphrase: Most underexposed 5x World Champ...

So... subscriptions for International is AUD$150 1yr, 6 issues.

Link:

http://surfingworld.com.au/page/subscriptions

I'm going to first see if the locals are carrying single subscriptions.

I'll leave it 'around' for the Mrs.

Then, full press for a subscription! :D

would be nice if one of our Aussie bro's could scan that article so those of us in other parts of the world can read it ... ? I don't think the magazine comes up this way, otherwise I'd buy one.

Here's the update on the local search...

Wise Surf: no
Aqua: no
Freeline: no
Barnes&Noble: YES. It's $14.95 a copy. I just got back, and they're still on the previous issue...

Huge offer, Mr. McKnee! I've seen SW before, but it's been awhile. I took a good long look at the previous issue, and it's everything you're saying.

(I started to peek at Water Mag, but was asked to leave. I just don't understand why they put those mags out and don't expect 'reactions.' :?  )

Any PMs? B&N was my last attempt before sending one...

Don't know if buying local will contribute to the lift of this issue, as I don't know if that information flows back to SW. There is a 'Contact Us' button on their website... we could also make an effort to give them some feedback...

Cheers!
