Can't wait for another excellent KB movie from Sparrow-boy. Its good for the KB community to support those who support KBing.

On that note, I ask you all to check out my friend's newest CD just out on Hana Ola Records. Kauai musician/surfer Ken Emerson's latest is entitled
SALCK & STEEL Kaua'i Style. Guest artists include Bill Kruetzmann, Todd Rundgen, Charlie Musclewhite and Pancho Graham. Already garnering excellent reviews in the mainstream Hawaiian media and just being released on the mainland this week.

Ken has donated music tracks to Simon for the past 2 KB movies free of charge. This is a big deal, especially from someone of Ken's caliber; he won a Grammy Award in 2006 for his Hawaiian slack key guitar work. When I asked Ken to kick down the tracks, he didn't hesitate.

So, for a measly $12.95 you can pick up one of the best Hawaiian music cd's that I've ever heard. Go to cordinternational.com and order up.

To buy cd: www.cordinternational.com

More info:
http://www.kenemerson.com/
myspace.com/kenemersonguitarist

And keep your ears open. Ken and I are working on a new recording of what I call 'surf ska'. We're taking old surf instrumentals from the late 50's early 60's and skankin' them up with a horn section in a ska styleee.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanx mucho,

Surfhorn

8) surfhorn, "surf-ska" sounds like what our band ,Northwest Swell is working at... but lapslide, melodica ,harmonica and banjo get mixed in occasionally...then its Rock Steady-Folk or something?,......any of your tracks online somewhere?

Nothing ready to go yet. We did a couple tracks last spring and worked on a couple more with The Rowan Brothers. Ken's been tied up finishing this new cd but is here in California for a couple gigs and some promotional things I'm setting up. Ken and I have been working on the 'surf ska' idea since 1986 but sometimes life gets in the way.

I hope to pop up to his place in the Bay Area and record a new track - a reggae/jazz thing. I've just hooked back up with my two sax players from the Square Roots days so things are looking good to bring them in also. They're the cats on the samples tunes on my myspace page (myspace.com/pleasurepointhorns). Adam plays with the Berkeley band, The Uptones. Geordie, the Coltrane-esque alto sax player, is also a monster on the Hammond B-3.

I'm setting up some gigs, etc. for Ken in SoCal and will keep you posted.
Ken still surfs a bunch so we want to set up a tour where we only play within striking distance of surf spots - my old method when I was with Square Roots. lol

Been meaning to post a review/comments on the Sparrow's newie but i've only been able to watch it 4 times in the last week - need a couple more viewings at least.

Have to say that the helmet cam footage in the newie is absolutely WORLD CLASS stuff - well done - deserves a KSUSA Oscar equivalent.

But I have to say the new DVD is way too expensive - cost me a fortune... cause it made me go out and buy a new 42 inch plasma - all your fault Simon
  Thats funny Grant

its here
