Howdy fellow genuflectors,
I`m new to this site but a long time avid kneeman. Just thought I`d chime
in with a recap of today`s surf conditions at the cliffs (dog beach). 4 to 6'
early this AM with moderate offshores and a dropping tide. Long walls with
very workable faces. Not great, but nuthin` to shick a stake at!
Good surfing to ya,
Spidah

Finally the ocean decided to come together and throw us some bones. Sunday turned out better than Saturday which was pretty good indeed. Blacks was solid 4-6' and hollow. Heavy crowd but managable. As I was putting on my fins I see Jason lay down 3 big spray chucking carves with a close out blast to finish. I only had an hour but got pretty lucky with a few pits and late drops. As I got out of the water I met a kneelo named John who said that Tom Backer and Wayne Koppet were out. As we chatted I saw both Bill Lerner and Tom Linton score a couple of screamers. Saw Tom B. shag one as I walked up the beach. Half way up the hill I see Tom Linn walking down with some of his pals.
How's that for a show of force!!
Low Tide today should be smoking. Ahh winter it just arrived!

couple fun days in La Jolla
I'd thought about cruising down to Black's to join you guys this weekend, but the surf at Windansea at low tide just looked too fun to pass by, so that's where I ended up going. Not too big, but clean and fun and with some juicy sections, I've been having a great time. Very mellow on Saturday thru a bit of rain, lefts and rights not too many people out. More crowd on Sunday, but more waves and plenty of fun ones to be had. Plus it was spread out, with peaks breaking all over the beach and reefs. Just enough west in the swelll to keep the channels open on either side of the main peak, and the lefts coming through with a racy wall and potential for a little cover up where it sucks out over the reef (almost got launched on a late take-off over that ledge too). Rights longer and more slopey, lots of cut backs but with plenty of juice working it all the way to the inside. Got one right that I swear put me past the stairs all the way from the outside just getting bigger the closer I got to the beach! I just raced it up high and then a big arcing cutback all the way back to the foam ball before I looked to the beach to see how far I'd gone. Super fun. No wind to speak of, sunny and warm although the water's been really cold (56 degF, brrr!!!)
Tom - I've been riding Eric's board - I love it! I want it! Hope he doesn't want it back anytime soon. It's so light and responsive, and I got it dialed in right away. If it's bigger today I'll ride the Blast, but I could totally get into this board for everyday use.

Way to score scott,
Last tuesday I got a really fun afternoon session at a beach break down in your neck of the woods. Tide was going out and a big sand bar started working with a big rip at the end. It almost like an amusement park ride. Two of us surfed for hour first then were joined by two others for an hour just before dark. Plenty waves with shoulder to overhead sets rolling through every 5 minutes or so. I stayed buzzed on that session for good three days!!!

Darcy, glad to hear you scored some surf, and you enjoy the board! I called eric last week and let him know that you had his board and he was cool with that, If you could call him and let him know how it rides I'm sure he would appreciate the feedback.

Blacks Crew Regarding the early Sunday session 2/15 we witnessed the potential of this incredible San Diego beachbreak compared to the gathering back in Dec. You guys are so lucky to surf there on a regular basis. San Diego shines in the winter, I'm jealous.
Dave W., Bill L., and Tom Linn sorry we didn't connect. I did see Bill snag a couple of big barrels from the beach on a light blue board; was that your new Blast quad fish? Jaffo was getting some good ones at the north peak as well. I also met Mark Cunningham whom I barely dodged as he was dropping into an easy 10' face bomb.
Brad: No worries mate those things happen. The only way I was going to make that wave was to back door that last bowl section..... I'll always wonder, what if? Hah!
The trip south was out of frustration with our local breaks and the chance that magical beach would light-up. I'm envious of anyone who can surf there regularly.
I'LL BE BACK Wayne

It's been a below average winter for Florida, but things are starting to crank up. PR is going off with this swell!! Frencho and crew will be snapping pics no doubt!
Ross's Surf Forecast - Cocoa Beach to Melbourne Beach: (Requires JavaScript)
Feb 16 (Mon) - BIG SURF ALERT for TUES - Not much out there today, but it still looks like we have a major swell inbound for Tues - 4 to 6 foot+ with light winds. It will probably start to build early in Tues AM, but the main swell is predicted to reach us around mid-day.
3 PM update - The South Hatteras buoy just went north of 15 feet at 14 seconds period - waves are coming - you can bet your lunch money on that. A swell moves though shallow coastal waters at about 22 miles an hour. Do the math - divide 500 miles by 22 mph to get arrival estimates.

Hi Dave, Got home today (Mon) so missed your post. Sat we got 6 inches, and Sun we got 10 inches. Used Demo skiis for the 1st time on Sat (Wow!). After not skiing (b/c of boarding) for 4 yrs it was a Blast (as in keeboards that rip, or so I hear..). It was like I didn't miss a day. The riding on Sun was also a Blast. Mammoth is supposed to get 2 feet this Wed/Thurs so hope Friday is/was EPIC!DavidW wrote:Brad, the wife, kids and I are going up on Sunday for the week. How long are you going to be there? May be we can slide a few for a mini-Mammoth gathering.
Dave.
Eric, visibility was marginal on top so didn't do Santiago (one of the longest runs).
Now, back to SURF!
