true dat. Personally, I don't give a flying feck through a rolling donut if a guy wants to wear fins or not. That argument is as lame as whether or not a kneeboard should have a pad. It's not gonna bring World Peace. Everybody has their own opinion. Max said it best, just go out and have fun. Isn't it what it's really all about?

No ...its all about ridiculing and ostracizing others that are different … for crying out loud youse blokes is daft.

Quite a few of the kneeolithic kneeanderthals in the Kneeboard Militia do great impersonations of ducks whilst entering the surf … and they go pretty good for a bunch of old kooks … as for Old Crazy he doesn't need fins to assist in making a fool of himself … and so keeps the fins exclusively for body surfing.

I'm 6' 4” and riding a 6' board and can paddle the thing into just about anything I'm game to … the arguments about board length and pros and cons of flippers is null and void in the grand scheme of things … it all depends on your influences when you were learning and where and how you surf today… look at some of the stand up crew their boards can be significantly smaller than a KB … but they have no trouble stroking into the bombs … my oldest is around 6' 3” ... his surfboard board is 5' 8” … and da-boy has no problems catching waves.
I'm all in favour of the fins … I just don't use them … can't and won't … but there are a lot of really good kneeboarders out there that do … and on the same token a lot of really good ones that don't. I've said it before … whatever floats you boat boys … whatever floats your boat.

This thread must be bullet proof … no matter how many times it gets shot … you just can't put it down.
Bang ... bang ... bang … take that … and that … and one more for good measure.

Thank you, Womble.

The thread shouldn't die... it would just be nice if it could stay on topic without all these insecure farts throwing tantrums cause someone might want to try something different. (Once again... what Kneeboarding is all about.)

This isn't "an argument"... it's a freaking discussion... by surfers who are curious and looking to challenge themselves.

Now... the "elephant in the room" is the fact that:
- Most of today's jaw dropping amazing surfers don't wear fins.
- It's harder, and it makes guys uncomfortable to admit that.

Whatever. Deal with it. So hopefully, now that we've given out the proverbial "Participation Trophy" of:" Do what you want... everyone counts" you guys can feel good about yourself and go on to another thread.

Womble- How thick are your boards? Also, do you use a tail pad or an arch bar?

Bringing the look-alike threads together...

EQ: my tongue-in-cheek mantra is 'through status quo I shall grow.'

I've tried before, and will try again. It's been a bit off up here, with a few good days in between. Experimentation has taken a back seat to FINALLY GOT SOME!

Womble, I saw your response and almost topped it just to say 'oops!'

Oh... sorry... OOPS!

Die, thread, die!

That said, well said, Womble!

Edit: I'm meeting Don for dawn patrol... time to tuck in the kids and get some sleep. G'night and don't trash the joint!

And the answer is ... drummm rollll ... 2 5/8" around the middle ... taking the volume out fore-n-aft and in the rails. I could possibly go thinner and or shorter ... mmm maybe next time.
Tail pad (two piece) ... usually Parkes ... but using squid grips at the moment although they do lack a bit of volume in the foam ... come on David hurry up with those pads.

Now in sticking with the topic ... flippers or not may to some degree affect board length ... volume and width ... but in my humble opinion its secondary or thirdary (new word invention) to other influences and idiocentricities of the individual ... nuff said.

On topic ... of course board length is the greatest single determining factor in deciding whether or not to wear fins, or flippers. On a short board without flippers one's wave count is likely to be meagre, and more so as the size of the waves increases. The shorter the board the more likely the rider is to be fippered up. Probably also fair to say that the older the rider the more likely he'll be fippered up. However, there's at least one exception to every rule. In this instance I could be it because I wear one flipper only. I lost the other one in 1972. No, I don't paddle round and round in circles.

paraphrasing, actually. I'm not surprised you're the only one that got it. There's actually more to me than MMA, kneeboarding and the Border Patrol...
