Global Warming

Post by Doc Turbo »

going to agree with Mike that Global Warming is a scam, and global climate change is Global Warming in a new package, and the worst about it is the current craze of Polical Correctness in the USA (and spreading) that makes one an outcast if we disagree with the mainstream gaia crowd.

There are plenty of incredibly serious immediate problems in each of our own backyards, and neighborhoods that we could solve, but maybe they aren't "cool" enough problems.

Corruption, Malaria, influenza, education, overpopulation, the missing forest on the way to Ujung Genteng?

Global Warming is a scam? Tell that to the people in the South Pacific whose front yards are now swimming pools, or Greenland, whose ice sheet is melting. I don't think global sea-level rise is a scam.

Now, ANY data that's come out of ANY Federal agency the last 7 years isn't worth the paper it's printed on - it's ALL politicized for the oil and coal men. ALL the science that's coming out against global temperature rise is paid for by, that's right - oil and coal.

There's nothing wrong with green business. Green business is good business. Innovate. Make something that's better, sell it with a margin and make money.

There are lots of scams against the American middle class no doubt, but this ain't one of them. Most of our problems can be traced back to the ultimate ascendancy of the corporatists to levers of power. The balance of power that once kept in mind the common good is gone. Corporations have only one goal, and the common good isn't it. Profit margin doesn't care about the Chesapeake Bay, or whether our grandkids can enjoy the planet that our grandfathers inherited.

These issues were well researched and confirmed back in the early 1970's but $ calls the tune.

Overpopulation is a really interesting topic..............

Doc is correct when he mentioned issues in one's own backyard. As REM sang "Stand in the place that you live." Its time we all took a stand and made our little corner of the Earth a better place. Its not very sexy - and you don't often score a victory - but every once in awhile you can make a difference.

That reminds me of a guy that I see every time I surf Blacks. He goes down emptyhanded each day with a stick and some plastic grocery bags, then tours the beach and picks up trash, until his bags are full. Then he's done and off he goes.

I always say hi and thank him for his work, but never stopped to ask him why he's doing it.

KenM is one of the only surfers thats comes to bobo that walks the beach picking trash.I've sat and watched hordes of visitors walk past junk in the road. And when they leave, the amount of crap that stays is amazing.
Good job Ken!....If I ever see you again,I'll offer you a wave...

Thanks Chuck, hopefully conditions will improve soon. You know, I don't do that to make an impression on the locals but it has definately had an impact. Time and tide permitting I try to do that after every surf at any spot.

I raised my children to pick up at least one piece of trash every time they go to the beach. If we all do just a little here and there, things will change.

Lead by example.

How anyone can walk past a piece of trash on the beach without picking it up and throwing it away is beyond me. Unless she's from Lakeside. In that case she's lost and you need to point her in the direction of the nearest Dirty Dans. From there she should get home on her own.

Randy one of the reasons that beach has remained clean for years is because of that guy and his friend.

As for global warming, it is not a scam. It is true that the earth goes through natural warming a cooling cycles. However, the current warming trend that we are experiencing has been supercharged by the industrializtion of our planet and is scientifically linked the increased use of carbon based fuels over the last 100 years.

supercharged by the industrialization of our planet....
hmmmmmmmm..........
why are the polar ice caps on Mars receding at the same rate as ours?
should'nt ours be receding faster? due to the "supercharging"
kinda indicates the man made greenhouse gases effect is greatly over-rated.
you can listen to Al Gore
i'll listen to NASA 8)

I don't know what's going on on Mars as I don't live there but I bet Mar's loss of polar ice can be linked to an environmental condition that is similar to the man made greenhouse effect being felt here on earth. In the past it was volcanoes, giant fires, meteor crashes, etc... that caused these very slow warming and cooling cycles. Unfortunatlely, in the last 100 years we have altered(sped up) these natural cycles by adding a constantly increasing stream of pollution to our athmosphere.

This is not rocket science and a smart man by the name of Roger Revelle warned us of this issue as far back as the late 60's. And looking to NASA for information on this subject is akin to asking ol G Dub what he thinks about Global Warming. Remember who pays their bills.
