Waterlogged

What's the longest go out you've ever done without stopping at the boat for water or a snack or anything like that?? For me it's only 4 1/2 hours and it was many years ago  Maybe a goal for this year will be to top that 8)

Brad, in FL it's a little easier. The water's currently at 82. 6 hrs for me last yr. Cramps and neck fatigue finally drove me in.

take it to the limit

I've gone between 4 1/2 and five hours probably too. I remember one of those days I was so tired but the waves were so good and I was having so much fun. And it was a day where the lulls between sets were long enough you could just sit out in the lineup at Windansea and vegetate for awhile. So many people come and go, too impatient ... you just wait, catch the best of the set everytime. Sweet.

Usually you catch more waves and feel better if you split the session up, though. Go warm up on the beach, rehydrate, refuel. Lots of times the wind comes up or tide changes or an un-desirable crowd makes you rethink the marathon status of your session. Or the chores (or loved ones) waiting for you elsewhere start weighing on your mind.

I love those long sessions, though.

Done lots of 4-5 hour sessions. The longest session that stands out in my mind was back in the late 80's, a Sunday after Thanksgiving Blacks had all 3 peaks working at 2-3OH and a light Santa Ana all day. I paddled out at 9:30 and came in at about 1/4 to 6:00. I can still visualize several waves from that day.

i remember so many days getting to the beach before dark and surfing till the afternoon and getting out of the water for a drink and then right back in.......when i read "in search of captain zero" , i adopted his priciple of never leaving GOOD waves...

...well as long as i dont have any solid obligations......why not??,,,,,
,,
maybe my favorite session being at thousand steps....getting in the water at 2:00 am and surfing till dawn and then some........in n out alot switching between kneeboard and bodyboard.......bright full moon, 4-6',with handful of buddies....good times...........

still a full day at rincon ON A SPOON!!!!! totally outweighs a long nighty sesh......so flex did the spoons lack of floatation really help you stay out there during the 10th hour and soforth????????....bet it was nice not worying about getting caught inside.................

Couple weeks ago I had a seven hour session the day before my 49th birthday. Got cramps in both calves, worked 'em out, then finally went in when my hamstring and shoulder started to sieze up.
I think I'm going through my third or fourth childhood. Or maybe the first one never quite finished.

7:00am till 1:30pm at 2nd peak malibu. for some reason, it wasn't crowded so i could bring myself to leave. i was so spent that on the drive back to brentwood, i pulled over and puked next to those stairs those people run up and down in santa monica. everyone ran back up the stairs rather quickly, except for some marathon type guy who asked if i was ok. when i told him i was just throwing up cause i surfed too long he said he knew what that was like.

surfed head high + south shore today with one other guy out - the guy who took me there! wide was side shore but i got plenty of fun rights that held up with the wind. who knows what tomorrow brings!

Lots of times I remember over 9 hours in Cali. only pee'd in wetsuit twice those days
I can go 3-4 hours now in 41-45 degree water on the east shore.

Sun up until sundown at Betty's. (Ask Joel where it is) A few of us made a dive/refueling platform a few years ago and use it as a headquarters. Stock it up with granola and water, and ...... :D

Makes daylong sessions a breeze!
