Water Temp in California

Just got back from SoCal and can't believe how warm the water is.
Went for a swim at Isla Vista and couldn't believe how like a bath tub it was.
KB'ed Topanga on Friday. 7 longboarders out with consistent, shoulder high waves......I about died in my wetsuit; I had to bob in the water. Way too hot to sit on my board.
And I body surfed Santa Monica for hours on Saturday. I never got cold and had to leave the water only because I was exhausted. My arms are still feelling it today.
Looks like you SoCal cats can hang up your wetsuits until November.

Water was even warm up here. If you can call around 60 degrees warm

I can. Several weeks wearing the $ 99 4/3 with no hood. A week or two of strong North winds will ( and is, as I speak ) put an end to it

Body Glove makes a basic 4/3 that retails around $99. Its what I use for most of the year here in Santa Cruz County.

It's an Xcel, bought at Seaside Surf Shop. Good for about 25 go outs. Should last me a lifetime.

With the water so warm this early may be bad/good huracane season? The lift from New Z this week!!!

The pitch was a little out side.

I always like to think that early warm water signals a strong hurricane season which = Wave City.
I have to hop down to Santa Barbara to move my daughter out of her house and down to Santa Monica. Its a quick over nighter but I'm going to pack trunks and swim fins and hopefully do a little body surfing. And not just shore pound. I've been known to swim out into the main peak of major surf spots. The standups never know what to make of that. heh, heh! The Lane at 8 feet is mucho fun.

surfhorn, coupls months ago there was a guy out here at Salmon Creek in 5-6 foot face pretty good waves wearing only a wetsuit, not even flippers. And he was catching a bunch of waves! Good body surfer. I talked to him and he said he sometimes just likes to get as basic and Zen about riding waves as it's possible to get. Keeps him prepped for travel emergencies if no other equipment is available.

What happened! Too much wind yesterday I guess. This AM at Blacks was cold and I just had 1.5 mm vest and bottoms, overcast and breezy. Checked the Scripps Pier Weather page this afternoon and it says 59.9F bottom temp. Still, stayed out for an hour on the newy
