Waiting a long time for boards

Anyone out there ever wait too long for their new boards? Seems like I'm always getting pushed to the back of the line. It sucks.
I've been kneeboarding exclusively for 30 years, I made my own boards for 10 years or so but decided to let the pro's make my boards now. I know exactly what I want down to the last detail. Mail the guy my deposit check and yet here I am 4 months later still waiting on some kneeboard guru to get my boards done. No callbacks or updates. I hope that they're worth waiting for. I'm not going to mention any names, that wouldn't be cool....
However, a big thanks to Jon Mel of Freeline in Santa Cruz. Less than 30 days start to finish and the boards were in my hands. Now if only more boardmakers were that prompt.
So what do you think, is this just how it is, or am I whining prematurely? Wishing for my winter quiver before winter ends. T Hall.

John Mel is a legend..
I am glad he sorted you out within the time he said he could..
Its not
that hard, huh?
I don't know who you are talking about (and I don't want to know)
But 'surfboards' in general don't need this s%$t
..and it happens 2 bloody often
hart
ps
the guy who you sent the $ to sure does..and its his trip, for sure from now..
If you have a 12 week waiting period..let the guy know (and at least make contact in between time)
stoked that a man with your experience is still keen..we sooo have to look after our own that's its just not funny (or slack) anymore
..I don't have a 'hope' icon to use here..............

been there... the worst part is that most of the time its not worth the wait.
I dont know if you have stumbled upon the same shaper that made me wait 3 months for a board, but if you have, I am sorry...
In my case I ended up with a board with a lopsided tail and a glass job that only lasted a month before I creased the board to the point of it not being worth repairing... I didnt like the board anyway and never went back to this shaper.
lesson learned...

That's a tough one for sure. It's may not so much be the waiting,as much as it's the lack of ''personal'' contact.Tough being a number on a piece of paper.
I Don't have that problem,From start to finish there's communication,and I don't mark time on the calendar.When it's done...it's done.Get exactly what I wanted.Doesn't mean I'm not gonna tweak him a bit..

All in good fun.
By the way

Where in the hell are our boards....
cheers!

I've been there several times with "the big name kneelo shapers" and it is really frustrating and like Albert I was quite disappointed with the results. The last time took the cake it took three months after I paid a big deposit before I got any real update. Then there was a truly tragic turn in the shapers family and a few more months. The later I don't even include as I completley empathise with the guy. But fact is after all this I really wasn't pleased with the board. We should all be accountable for our work what ever it is, shouldn't we. I don't think any of mind paying the price for a quality product delivered in a "reasonable agreed upon time".
Again I find myself looking for another board and wondering how will this experience be.

Consider the population of kneelos in the world and how many boards the average kneelo will buy, divide by the number of kneelo shapers, subtract the number of boards bought used and off the rack. A four month backlog? How could they be that busy? Where are all the boards going ? The big board vault? Off planet?

Hey guys, as someone who is considering ordering a new board from one of the "big kneelo shapers", what good is a forum like this unless you name names....It just seems like there are no ramifications to shapers who aren't business savey, or even care to keep you informed on the progress of your order and so therefore it keeps happening.
What if KSUSA forums let kneelos know who was doing well (from both a shape and business perspective) and who doesn't deserve our business? It seems to me Dean Cleary made some good mojo and showed some business savey recently with his involvement at the HB gathering in Sept. (not to mention cool vid and pics).

Well is seems like I'm not the only one that has had to wait too long for boards. It feels good not to be alone. As for the public flogging, I am reluctant to name names because it just doesn't seem like the right thing to do on a public forum. I will gladly disguss this with you if you PM me but I'm not the kind of guy to harsh someone in front of a crowd. Word of mouth can be very powerful. We'll leave it at that. Thanks all, T Hall.
