Apologies but please enjoy ...
Hi All
We are really pleased with our new website. It has been a labour of love and we have kept it in the quiet, including the spoon creation.
I apologise to anyone in our community that I have been less than forthright with over this past 9 months but we wanted to wait and put the site up.
Also, making spoons is a real process and labour of love and patience which takes time and distracts from web sites
We hope you enjoy the site.
Paul's articles have been 6 months in the making.
In the coming weeks I am making a carbon spoon using a vaccum pump and will document it in the My Spoon blog.
BTW - this is my favourite surf site ... cheers Damien

I saw that Hawaiian Paipo Designs is working on a spoon. Anyone heard any more on this?
As far as I can tell the going rate on a new spoon is $2000. If I had that much extra cash I'd just take a month off work and build my own. But first I'd have to find a work space. City living has it's down side.

It could be worse, I could be in Oakla-homa.
The cat is out of the bag .... or spoons for $990
Just a heads up ....I have read this 3-4 times and consider this an ad for my spoons ... read on at your own peril
After 20 spoon builds, consulting the builders who know, and fielding input from those spoon riders who really, really, really know and then seeking out the latest technology to meet our ideal ...
We have worked really hard to reduce the build process on spoons ...
Yep you can buy a Greenough designed spoon for usd$990 or a carbon version for usd$1450.
Why Greenough based design ... Paul Gross built a mold expotenially larger thaan George's original spoon ... all these spoons come out of this mold to ensure rider up to 120kgs can ride them ... you can see examples at
http://www.edgespoon.com/myspoon
George has seen the spoons produced from this mold and his advice has been incorporated into later releases.
How come so cheap ?
We have kept up a continuous improvement cycle. Each aspect has been closely reviewed to ensure that each step in the build process, has been examined closely to reduce the manufacture process time. The result is a streamlined build process that reflects quality within a reasonable timeframe.
Did this come overnight ????
In your dreams .... this has taken a huge effort ... about 10 spoons out of the mold7 ... hour after hour after hour to shave time to shave an hour here... an hour there ... the first one took me over 60 hours ... with technology improvements + reduction in the build process we haave it down to 15 hours actual time and maybe even less
Did I do this all by myself .. no .. George Greenough and Paul Gross have been strong mentors in offering guidance.
We are elated that we can offer sppons at this price ....we hope that you consider these options in the future.
Oh ... if not ... may be consider, if Bruce doesn't mind, then go the Flashpoint
PS: I don't know how to place pics here ... else I would
sorry
cheers Damien

Last time I priced carbon for a spoon, it was $1500 just for the cloth, which stopped me dead in my tracks, so I'd say that $1500 total for one of yours is a phenomenal price, especially considering they're right out of a Paul Gross mold with the Greenough imprimatur. I can't believe you put this together.
Two questions: what's the fin setup on your boards--is it the narrow rapier thing or something wider & flexier--and what's the difference in handling between an edge board and a conventional velo-type spoon?

The fins
I have posted a pic on http://www.edgespoon.com/myspoon these are hand made from mold taken from one of Paul Gross' fins.
The ride - if you look on the underside of the edge spoons they are a complicated design that promotes lift, so the spoon actually lifts up and sits on the sleds.
The velo is built with strength in the rails. There are pics of George with the fin fully exposed, which can be done on the velo because it its shape.
The edgespoon is built for speed to get around white water and through sections and shift into 3rd gear when required. The rails in the edgespoon are flexible. When I dive under a say, 4 foot wave, I an feel the rails vibrate as the wave collapses over the top of it. Yet, when riding the spoon the rider can feel the press and subsequent release of the tail as it flexs and releases. I have never felt the tail slip out of a wave, it just holds the line.

Thanks ...
Hi Stu, in for a penny in for a pound
The Sleds are the e-glass version of the edge spoon and can be purchased for USD$950 (the is the photo with clear deck and blue edges) I think that is about AUD$1160 and about GBP490.
The Skimmer model is the carbon fiber edge spoon. It sells for USD$1450 and is about AUD$1765 or about GBP$740.
The name of the Sled came from Mark's son's email to me. The Skimmer was named by my daughter's boyfriend who has a Sled model in red trim.
Mark, thanks for the pic of the fin. It is very very similar in shape. However, I do not fasten them to the bottom of the spoon, they are removable and adjustable. I finished a carbon fin last weekend and working on another one this weekend. They take about 4-5hours to cut and 1 hr layup.
I have the seven Greenough and Gross molds for edge spoons. I will just stick to making these. Of course if I can convince Paul to further instruct me and send us both around the twist ...
From a personal view, I have wanted to bring the price to an affordable level for spoon lovers. Yes, I know these are still expensive prices but these are the best I can do. Please rest assured I will continue to research but I must say I don't think I can shave any more off until they become machine made ..... on the 12th of Never
Thanks for the feedback.
