Newport vs South Bay waves
I was down at Newport (48th St?) yesterday with friends (body boarding the black ball), and noticed that the wave QUALITY is superior to a typical day in the South Bay (Manhattan Beach). Newport's wave was peakier, with better form than the usual block long walls typical of the SoBay.
Is this the usual scenario?
Are the multiple rock jetties at Newport responsible for breaking up the lines and producing better formed sand bars therefore better formed waves?
Not that I'm gonna invade Newport, as MB Pier is a stone's throw from my house, and NB was over 1.5hrs in rush hour traffic yesterday--ugh.
Just wondering

Make the jump this winter and surf the reefs and points in PV. Kind of a bad rep for localism but if you can surf and are respectful you can get some bombs when the west swells hit.
If I say its safe to surf this beach Captain, then its safe to surf this beach. I mean I'm not afraid to surf this place, I'll surf this whole f@cking place!

That's what I'm doing this winter--I got a taste last winter and can't wait to go back. And yes, you must respect the local rules. Otherwise, you're going to end up with slashed tires.Chris Buscemi wrote:Make the jump this winter and surf the reefs and points in PV. Newport a good place for tubes and big airs picks up a south swell
South Bay not good for south sells but when the north west swell come it comes to life
South Bay dose have few jetties Topaz, Breakwall,El Porto All get good
PV gets Epic just mind your manners and you will get waves
Peace and good waves

Re: PV
Believe it or not, PV police have a program setup that if your surfing, you can call them and tell them where your parked, and they will patrol your car. I read about it somewhere.kneelingBROTHA wrote:That's what I'm doing this winter--I got a taste last winter and can't wait to go back. And yes, you must respect the local rules.
