Flipperless

Post by halbs »

Having worn flippers for about 25years I am very keen to be rid of them as they are a pain to me. This was highlighted to me on my recent boat trip to Indo, where I took two pairs as I was forced to take a spare incase of loss. Having two pairs of flippers in a board bag is a hassle in itself with weight and room etc. My problem is I find it extremely hard to surf without them and at the moment I'm on a fatness campaign so takeoffs are a problem. However I intend to get out of holiday mode and turn the "a" into an "i" [geez sounds like a slogan] and be rid of those damn things! Also it is a good point about the top guys not wearing them it is something I have also noticed recently.
getting there is often as good as getting there

Top guys not wearing them

Baden wears flippers - and he is the most successful kneelo competitor in history - so it doesn't make an iota of difference to your surfing ability - and the drag thing - well can't say I've ever noticed that - I just hate lugging them around and people asking me;

"What do you do with the flippers while you are surfing"

"I put them on my feet", I say.

"Well how do you stand up?"

"I don't", is my reply.

I'm with Kneebumps... I read this and went

Checklist:

2x-3x... OK.

52? All too soon.

No wetsuit? YIKES!

Of course, Chuck Norris is a kneelo. 87 years old. Wakes up before he goes to sleep to ride outer potato patch without a leash. He paddles out from San Jose, punching sharks out to steal a bit of breakfast along the way. :D

In addition to being a ripping kneelo, it's a well known fact that there is no chin underneath Chuck Norris' beard.... just another fist.

I took out a bigger board in HH+ RJ's at lunch yesterday and the extra foam helped A LOT.
I have had no kitchen for about 2 months now and have been eating out WAY too much, which is detrimental to my not wearing fins. I like not carrying them around enough to stick with it however :?

I find my positioning on the board when paddling is so much more important. If I slide back to kick its over. :(

On a promoting kneeboarding note. I am walking down the beach yesterday when a guy is like "what kind of board is that"? I tell him, he's like cool, blah blah. Him and his family are like "cool, we will watch you". I paddle out, get a closeout. A set wave comes toward me, the biggest wave I saw all day, and I go for it. I'm too deep and eat it hard enough that some bodyboarder kid was like "WOAH" when I surfaced from the beatdown. Pretty awesome.

Chuck's knees are famous... there's the 'knee of death,' and the 'knee of destruction' If you see either, it's too late... you're a goner.

Chuck realized he needed a board when his body kept squashing the waves

Chuck went to kneeboarding after his muscles kept forcing his feet through the the foot-thick steel stringers and kevlar...

Kneelo is the only way he can distribute his weight enough... and, even then, he goes through a board every wave.

The remains of the boards are used to armor tanks.

And, that's all I have to say about Chuck. :D
