SurfRider Turnout Stuns Coastal Commission Hearing

Post by RW »

2000 plus in attendance.....Wyland Hall....wall to wall standing room only.....hundreds more outside both East and West entrances......

The Toll Road isue has become the largest public hearing on record for both the Coastal Commision and SurfRider.

FWEEEEEEEEETTT!!!!!!

The suits up front were in shock.

The labor Unions sent their paid strikebreakers in buses to muscle a bunch of pussy surfers......BWAHAHAHAAAAAA....outnumbered easily 20 to one they sat there in silence as the groms gave them the business....all in accordance with proper procedure......those poor thugs never had a chance......but it was a paid vacation for them...so they endured the irreverence with quite stoic humility.

I stayed through all the legal mumbo jumbo presentations just after lunch.....waiting for the 6PM talking heads to bend the storyu around now.

....fill in the blanks Beeline......

...still in session....decision to be announced by 10 PM.

Disappointing about the Union guys - being used as pawns by development interests. I'm a big believer in labor unions but raping the environment to provide jobs is pretty shortsighted.

The guy on KUSI called it 40% for, 60% against. Sounds to me like it was much more lopsided - great news!

..just returned from PB Surf Club meeting.....the Pres stayed till 5PM...said turnout estimates now between 3-4 thousand with the after work crew showing up....meeting still in progress.....9:15PM.....

unions suck...that time and era are long gone.....

KUSI had reporters outside the building during the time I was there....85-90% is a much better estimation based oin first hand POV.....from inside the building at max capacity.....

....the NEWS....some people actually believe that $hit.....and we all know what kinda farm animules Gene-O calls those kinda morons....

bleeeeeeeeeeeeet......

He ain't alone.

....I bet those suits table it in the face of overwhelming adversity in favor of a less intimidating...no threatening environment.....frickin' carpetbaggers.....

Here is the SF email that went out today:

Dear Dan,

Yesterday was a great day for the coast!! The California Coastal Commission voted 8-2 to reject the planned 241 Toll Road and to protect Trestles and San Onofre State Beach. Thousands turned out for this historic meeting in Del Mar, making it clear to the commissioners that the destruction of state parks and coastal resources is unacceptable.

The record-breaking crowd was comprised of a diverse cross-section of beach users including surfers, students, families, seniors, fishermen as well as a large number of Native American tribal representatives. Also on hand was a massive contingent from the surf industry, including various manufacturers, shapers, media representatives and pro athletes.

“Our supporters have logged countless volunteer hours on this campaign over the last several years,” said Moriarty. “Last night’s decision was an incredible affirmation for their efforts, and a testament to the power of grassroots activism.”

Many of you sent letters to the Commission and to the Governor asking that this road be blocked. Many of you told the Commission on YouTube to protect our state park and beach. And many of you showed up to the meeting prepared to demonstrate to the commission and the world that our parks and coasts are not to be destroyed.

Of course Surfrider Foundation didn't do this alone. We want to thank our partners with the Sierra Club, CA State Parks Foundation, Natural Resources Defense Council, Endangered Habitats League, Sea and Sage Audubon Society, Defenders of Wildlife, WildCoast and countless others.

While this decision is likely not the death knell for the toll road we would like, there will be a major uphill battle for them to overcome. We will be there at every step to trip them up and we will need your continuing support. If you haven't, please consider joining Surfrider Foundation and getting involved in your local chapter.

Thank you for protecting the coast.

Sincerely,

Mark Rauscher
