BIG NW Incoming for California

Post by Masons »

Very large swell being forecasted for sunday-tuesday, peak on monday. Where is everyone planning on heading out??

I'm hoping the conditions will remain somewhat clean maybe even offshore? Currently we've got heavy onshore winds, mild rain, and fairly ugly water so I'm not TOO optimistic for "pristine conditions".

Already a lot of HYPE - sandspit is going to have a "pro party" if it sets up right. I'd love to get in on that, but the crowd is insane and a lot of skilled surfers in the line up makes it tough to get a wave or two,, but from what i've seen one good wave would make it worthwhile.\

Triple overhead Rincon anyone?? :D

Heading to Santa Maria Monday AM. Looking forward to Rincon or points there about.....It's not going to be that big. Is it?
Wind is going to be the factor.

from Stormsurf.com
Central/Southern CA: Expect swell arrival starting at 7 AM Sunday (2/24) ramping up fast, with swell /seas peaking near noon at Pt Conception at 19 ft @ 14-16 secs (maybe longer periods intermixed) resulting in 26-30 ft faces from 270 degrees. Swell to pushing into exposed breaks near Dana Point about 4 hours later at 9 ft @ 15 secs (13-14 ft faces) from 275-280 degrees. South to southwesterly winds early giving way to northwest winds 15 kts in the afternoon depending on timing of frontal passage. Raw and mostly classified as stormsurf. Residuals fading overnight with period down the 12-13 secs Monday AM and dropping fast.

The authorities are calling for winds, rain and power outages here in Santa Cruz County. I had .45 inches of rain yesterday (taken daily at 4PM) and its been a steady, light rain all day since about 6 AM.

We're going to stock up at the grocery store and snuggle down for the weekend.

That swell looks good sized.Unfortunately, the link below shows the wind direction, which don't look good.
