HAGS THIS EVENING, some snaps

Anyone out at Haggerty's this evening, on a sparrow kneeboard, with a helmet and duckfeet? If so, and interested in seeing pictures, please let me know! I will put them up on printroom.com for viewing, and if you dig them, you can purchase them. No pressure, I was just REALLY stoked to see a kneelo out there, I haven't got to shoot a picture of a kneeboarder in perhaps 4 years.

There was definitely some tension on that party wave!

I know lots of people that would be unhappy about pics being taken of of PV surf spots. I don't live there anymore, so I don't care. Hags has always been an outsider spot anyway.

How big was it up there yesterday? It just started getting good down here last night, but the water smells like turds.

There were 2 other people with cameras, and one with a video camera, and I was setting up and running around between people that were obvious locals, sooo...

The sets were around 9-10' on the face. The in between waves were 5'-6'. The biggest waves were substantial, the rest were hackable.

Like I said; Hags has always been an outsider spot. Fun wave though. Were Phillips and Weasel, and the boys out?

I got a call from Weasel saying that is was goin' off! Does Joel still shoot photos there and at Burnout? It's been a long time...

I heard from my son in law that there were some har core waves there yesterday just before dark. A petner of his went out and had his board snapped and then dragged across rocks. Someone called 911 and a lifeguard boat turned up but didn't have to pull anyone out of the H20.

Haven't got the full story yet.

Hey Surfhorn, I'm sorry to hear that. I left right after sundown because I had a prior commitment; I must have missed the craziness.

The waves were quite large on the sets, but didn't look too gnarly when I got there. But I think the tide was dropping pretty low right before I left. The rocks on the inside looked to be starting to show right around sundown.

Keep us updated, I hope the guy is okay.

This thread would be a lot cooler with pics on it. Just sayin.

Blah blah blah...

Hags is no longer the place it used to be. Thanks to websites like Surfline, and photogs posting pics all over the place, it's become a total snake pit.

I live across the street, and every time Hags is above head high I can't even get out of my driveway. I've seen the place go from a high-performance hotbed to a place packed with kooks.

Slabslayer - Fill in the blank and you have most of the California coastline in 2008. The fortunate thing is that you live across the street and can hit it on that rare day that its going off and there aren't a ton of people in H2O.

We all have our daily haunts and are usually rewarded with that one, sparkling day. That knowledge keeps me going.

Surfhorn I agree. Although Hags usually has 20 guys in the water at the slightest hint of a swell, it's still possible to catch it alone or with a few guys. Problem is, those sessions are usually only about 30 minutes long nowadays.

Hey does anyone have Joel the photographer's telephone number? I have a photo of him from the 70's riding a yellow fish on a good size day at Hags. I'd like to give it back to him.

cheers

Pete - I have the number someplace. Will look for it.

Joel saved my bacon a couple years ago when he was able to shoot my daughter's wedding. I only had 2 days warning and Joel came through big time. I knew it was gong to be a good wedding when he drove up with a kneeboard on his car! A cool muscle car with a Mad Max grill.

Also, my son-on-law was at Wally's on Sunday evening.

Ah, wallys. That makes more sense. The inside is pretty nasty there. I hope he's okay.

kneelingBROTHA do you paddle out at Wally's often? I know there's a BBer named Tim that surfs the place. Is that you?

Wally's is an amazing wave when it's on! Perfect setup for kneeboarding.

Surfhorn, I met Joel a long time ago and made a few boards for him over the years. Not sure if he liked them or not though. He's got a heart of gold!
