Cronulla Kneelos

Following a couple of conversations with Mashby at the last couple of Sydney Club contests we are going to have a night out for the Cronulla kneelos - get the current club guys from the 'Nulla together with the old blokes - I have spoken with "old timers" like John Waterworth, Rob Rennie & Paul Armstrong and they are keen. If anyone one has contact details for any of the old crew please PM me or email to tonywales@optusnet.com.au - just to throw a few names into the mix I am trying to contact guys like Murray Barnes, Tony Unicomb, Adam Justice, Dave Delluca, Ross Bullard, Jim Montogomery, Muggsy, Carl Scarpe, Scotty Lawton, Lenny Vial, Justin Banks, etc.

I'll start sending emails out to curent club members this week so don't fret if you are reading it here first. Anybody who has been part of the Cronulla kneelo scene over the years is welcome - even the odd blow in from other beaches will be tollerated (hint hint to the likes of Peter Berry, Cam and Smurf).

As it was traditional for many years to turn up at club contest with illegal blood alcohol levels, reeking of stale beer and with shocker hangovers we will be having a "few beers" at a pub on the Friday night before the next club contest in Cronulla.

Details:
DATE: Friday, June 20th
TIME: 7PM
PLACE: Gymea Pub (central location in the Shire)
CONTEST: Saturday, June 21 - Wanda - 7.30AM

This is just a casual get together - nothing formal - just a few beers and a chin wag. If you want to be part of it all just contact me at the above addresses. Thanks - Walesy.

Hi Tony,
sounds like it'd be a bloody good session. Pity I'm so far away or I'd get my blow-in t shirt on
:D :D
Say hello to John Waterworth & Rob Rennie etc. for me,
Noosa's been out of control last couple of days my arms & legs feel like jelly, my ego's bruised & I can't seem to get a silly grin of my face.
All the best for your gathering

The Island is one crowded patch of surf these days, on a good south swell it will be packed to the max by every sort of surfcraft capable of making the wave and on east and northly swells when it gets ugly over white rock its overun by bodyboards. No kneelos have given the Island a serious run for its money since Gavin Coleman used to frequent the place on south swells. The thing about Cronulla compared to other beaches in Sydney is that there are quite a few ledgey reef breaks in the area so the focus of surfing isn't just on the Island. FYI the best kneelo I ever saw at the Island was Ross Bullard in the early 80s.

Jeez now wouldn'[t that be one night not to miss. i wish I could be there but the best beer in the world is only made in Cork and so I would have to bring me own. Anyway to all those whom turn up have 10 or so for me as well, and one thing i do know about you lot is that you all seem to surf better after a long night on it.

Nice one Tony.

I saw Murray down Garie about 2 years ago and he was still riding that flouro yellow board.

I will lock it in!

ha, ha ... Looks like he is hanging out at the footy with the Cronulla Boardriders guys - that's big Barry Tyte in the blue jacket and Hendo in the black hoodie with cigs in the gob. Let me guess it's a John Veage photo? Veagie is a member of Cronulla Boardriders. Actually now that I think about it he is now the photo editor of the Leader so he'll always stick his mates in the paper!

Well spotted Adam!!

Howdy all!! Unfortunately we have had to call the drinks off - timing not good for a few folks. We'll try again later. See you at the club contest on Saturday. Walesy.
