Using swim fins and not using swim fins
I'm sure this has been done to death but being slightly lazy and not wanting to wade through pages and pages...
How come aussies tend to ride without swim fins and the yanks and the brits tend to ride with em?

thanks for that, I'll have a look.
We always wore fins so it was strange the first time I saw Nov and Farrarer in the video Water Slaughter not wearing em.
The only kneeboarders I'd ever seen on film before hand were Greenough in Crystal Voyager and a guy in Hawaii on Free Ride (short clip) and they both were wearing fins.
That's the good thing with international forums, you can ask the dumb questions cos people may have an idea!

Just to bring something to this convo, I've experimented a lot this last winter with fins/no fins.(btw kauai no one in cali calls them "flippers"..lol) In small waves I notice that the drag does make a difference and its easiest to go finless but in 4'(back) + surf the drag isn't noticeable..
I noticed a MUCH larger difference, at least in terms of drag, with going leash or no leash. I mostly wear a leash as I spend alot of sessions at Rincon during the winter and I don't want to risk my flashpoint taking a few bounces off the inside rocks . But you get a lot more drag from a leash then a pair of fins.

Typing 1-handed... arm's in a sling...
Hear you on the leash... I usually have a 8' thick cord during the season, and oftentimes get lazy swapping it out... putting up with the extra drag.
Something that slows me down is shortening the cord down to 6', where I tend to get whacked a lot more by the board... if nothing else because I'm thinking I have more slack than I have.
HOWEVA... the BIGGEST drag for me on my board can be traced back to... me! A few extra lbs is a real drag!

I ride a Freeline 5’8” quad fish that works very well overall and is great in solid surf. With this board I like using fins. I have been using the Pod 2 fins as of late and they have preformed very well. Over all fins help me get into waves and they also give me a jump on the takeoff. This not only translates into more waves caught in a day but it also gives me an earlier start on the wave when jamming down the line. Fins or no fins that is up to each of us to decide and it comes down to what ultimately works best for you. For me it is a shorter board and fins for others it is a longer board and no fins. See what works best for you and enjoy. Cheers TC

Ive got a 6'6" quad and don't use fins, it's my " longboard " kneeboard Really handles the big stuff, and glides on the inbetween stuff. Every once in a while some stand up will paddle past and mention that he didn't know I was a kneelo So the next wave I stand up and wave to him while yelling " Like this "
