For what it's worth, I use the Toobs Bluntcut fins. I fit them over a round toe bootie. Trimmed the edges so there is no over hang on the rails.

I have been usin the CH makapu with the blade cut off straight. Then I wear then on the wrong feet so the thin edge is on the outside.

** caution dont wear makapu fins on wrong feet***

I always wear the XL fins with 5 mil round boot and size 10 feet pretty much all year and dont get any rubs and if there are any cramps during a long session a few big gulps of water seem to calm them down. Just dehydrated. Make sure the water is clean at the time!!

Now there's a name you wouldn't want to spoonerise. I doubt I could trust myself to walk into a shop and ask for a pair.

Here's my hack job.

Flush to the rails so zero over-hang. Slight drop in drive but my swimfins are kinda suplimentary. When going for waves I only use my arms. I do keep thinking of going sans fins bt on those big English paddles giving your arms a rest is just so appealing!

fins, fins,fins

Poorboy, as you can see, like most topics on this site we are all in complete agreement on which fins to use. Best thing is to try as many as you can. Some used sporting goods shops and a few surfshops sell used fins so you can try a few different kinds without breaking the bank.

I think its best to ride what you bring!!

Any fins are good, they give you a height advantage over any without fins.

And if they are your custom....all the better.

Being a solid mass of rubber means carve them up and use any power tools you want to grind them to your own perfection. Just use any sandpaper grinder or belt sander to smooth the cuts out. Then handsand and round any corners to give them the look you want. They are fun.

**caution DO NOT wear un-cut churchill makapuu fins on wrong feet while walking**

Looks brutal G. Interesting that you only use fins to paddle out. I'm the opposite. I use one only to get that last little bit of push to take-off. Oh, and it comes in handy during duck-dives too, but I guess that figures.

Metalcoastie, you need to invest in some sunscreen.

I use fins for paddling out too, only use my arms when catching a wave.

The downside is I'm currently suffering with calf cramps a lot due to lack of fitness and long paddle outs where I surf in the UK :(

Without the fins in my current (lack of) fitness, I'd struggle to get out back just using arms.
