i was out a few years ago at 69's and Kelly and Shane were out. taking apart 6' shallow reef pits like it was 2' shorebreak. Shanes a legend himself but Kelly was on a whole nuther level. i felt afterwards it was a bit of a honor to share a session with someone so utterly above and beyond it all. IMHO he has no equal and probably never will.
that he gives a little nod to us dodoboarders every now and then is pretty damn cool

I caught a little part of the semi-final with Tim Reyes.
Slater had a 5.28, Reyes had 15.something.
Slater gets a barrel... 9.0
On his PADDLE BACK OUT, swings around and immediately scored a 10.
Game over.

The board Slater rode in the final was a 5'11" (Al Merrick) - the length's getting better but its still a bit narrow.

Talked to him at dinner last night and he said that after he hit's the 10th world title he's switching over to knee riding full time!
Get ready...
Surf has been good, but the rains have been pretty heavy yet cleared for the final.
See ya

Hey Tony, looks like you're right and he's getting a headstart
See pic #28 of 30 in the following:

If that actually is true then that would probably do more for kneeboarding then any of us could ever imagine, IMHO.

Slater riding shorter boards in bigger waves than the rest of the tour is nothing new, at the first Quik Pro at G-Land in '95 everybody else turned up with guns plus shortboards in the 6'5" plus range - Slater rode a 6'1" for most of the event and redefined surfing at G-Land. Other competitors were left scrambling for shorter boards when they saw what Slater was doing.
And don't expect Slater's one off kneelo wave to reinvigerate the sport, his sitting on his bum waves at Lance's Right did nothing for the wave ski industry ...

I seem to remember Cheyne Horan riding tiny boards during his Lazor Zap times with McCoy......
He was about the only guy that could make em work though... huge talent.

IMHO if Cheyne would have got on a thruster he would have multiple world titles.
