I cant remember seeing any more than 2 or 3 people ever getting fifty yard long tube rides. How often would you say it happens?ScottMac wrote:I can't remember anybody ever getting a fifty yard long tube ride in

I can remember somebody getting bumped in a heat who
caught scoring waves to a fat SD chick who floated the
entire heat...

Whatever with the surf city deal; only city officials marketing bull sh%t care.
As far as this post turning on contests and their shortcomings, well, they are not for everyone.
It would be wonderful to have the best venues on the very best days, BUT HELLO, let' be realistic. Organizing such events require big bucks, time, and the ever temperamental sometime bitchy, Mother Nature to cooperate.
Personally, I find riding barrels easier than a critical lip smack. They are both legitimate moves with their degree of difficulty.
I guess I resent the conventional thought that we all knee board just for the barrel. AGAIN, WHATEVER. Some people like chocolate ice cream, others, vanilla.

There is a pic of me here in Surf City, it's in New Jersey.
I am a traveller of both time and space, a weaver in and out of dreams, I see worlds seldom seen.

You want consistent surf? Bali/Indo in June and July where you are all but guaranteed 2 solid swells every 10 days and the wind WILL be offshore.
You want 50 yard barrels? Easy ... G-Land! Think Money Trees & Speedies.
Surf City? In the most pure sense of the words ... Kuta. It might be a shambles of a place ... chaotic, unplanned and a borderline third word slum, not have the plastic facade of Huntington or Torquay, be steeped in the longboard history of Santa Cruz or the machismo of the North Shore but it is where any surfer can go and find world class waves to match their ability. A town where surfing oozes out of every day to day pore of the town whether it be the surf shops, bars, restaurants, art markets, street hawkers or warungs - a town built by surfers for surfers.
