I'd like to start some discussion on the differences between a fish and a groveller.

I got a fish for what I'd assumed would be all small surf.

It works great in small clean surf and small clean weak surf. Not so much in rideable junk. My old small wave board works much better in smooth rideable short waves. More curve and shorter. The fish is flatter and loves a long wave with some flat parts.

Live and learn.

Ideas?

so why even bother...

usually I take my smaller boards only a couple of inches shorter than my all arounder, thicker, and slightly wider. The largest difference is the tail shape, if you keep lots more curve in the tail shape while still maintaining a lot of surface area that will help you float through lots of junky sections... straight railed fishes are great in some conditions, but not in all. Hope this helps.
