Lake Surf

Post by cs »

Long time since I've posted. I think this link may make for a couple happy moments. Lake Superior, about as good as it gets.

Despite all our best plans, sometimes life intervenes. I don't even surf the lake anymore, but I like to look at the pretty pictures now and then. The last time I surfed was on my trip to Hawaii a couple of years ago. I'm a slave to the almighty dollar now.

PS. Thanks for the reply CP. Cherish what you've got.

That's the best Great Lakes wave surf shot I've ever seen!

Reading the thread, it sounded like the air temps were not much above zero Farenheit. What was the water temp?

Right now I am working in northern Ca., north side of Lake Tahoe. The house i`m working on is right on the lake. Last week, we had a strom come through and we got about a foot of snow. But when I went outside to see what the lake was doing, there were waves!! Not quite as good as your pics CS, but very surfable. I wished I would have had one of my boards. I never thought in a million yrs I would ever think about surfing in a lake with snow on the shore. I would do it in a second now.
Have fun.

Longboard? I can see how you might think that. But, check these pictures taken the same morning. I wasn't there, but I hear the water temp was about 38F.

CS if you live right there, you should surf it. I surfed Lake Erie, freakin cold, but my 6/4mm worked good. Water gets about 38-36f in the lakes. Erie is the only lake that will completely freeze over.

Mike, I've surfed it a bunch of times. My comment just meant that I don't surf it anymore. It's a good 3.5 hour drive. It normally only breaks like this for a few hours at a time, a few times a year. I've got two young kids and a very demanding job. Though it kills me when there's a bit of surf, I just can't do it anymore. I can't drop everything with a moment's notice like I used to. I've set my priorities on my family. I guess if it was 10 minutes away, like it was when I grew up in Dana Point CA, I'd still be able to hit it whenever it was happening. For now, I just enjoy the pretty pictures and live vicariously through the lake pictures and this website. Such is life when you marry a girl from the Midwest.

CS, there are more important things in life than surfing anyway. 3.5 hours is quite a distance.
