Is it worth the drive?

Post by AM_Glass »

I've been worn out and sick for the last three weeks. Now I'm feeling good again and there is a swell due to hit California. I'll be near Santa Cruz for the weekend but I'm imagining it will be very, very crowded. I'm tempted to make a long drive for something better. I'm thinking Rincon, but would it be worth it to drive 6 hours, surf, and drive home again? Will Rincon be just as crowded as Santa Cruz? Will I be driving right past better spots?
It could be worse, I could be in Oakla-homa.

Rincon will be crowded, plenty of spots on your way down, but if you live in Oakland wouldnt Ocean beach be closer?

there are so many good, uncrowded spots between SC and Rincon. Rincon is one of the most crowded spots on Earth.

Search and ye shall find.

In SC, all the little college kiddies run off to see Santa Ma & Santa Pa.
If you scout around there are GOOD sessions to be had with low key low crowd. Size is predicted this weekend, puts fear in the faces of the remnant flotsam. 8)

Rincon on a holiday weekend? Crowded?

It's only a few hours away from the SD, OC, LA population insanity. . .

Not to mention small swell window. Too much N. and it gets Channel Island Blockage.

One beautiful wave though. . .

You can also come to SC an avoid the popular spots and times.

Save the gas and just surf it out in SC. Spend the time in the water not behind the wheel.

You will get your waves :)
