Great place, I was there three days later. Powerful beach break, the drops are a rush, and it's Bill Lerners home. The beach is patrolled by nude sunbathers, none of which are good looking females. Only two ways down, a long walk down a cliff, or a long walk down a steep road. Oh, and stay away from the cliffs, they tend to collapse. :)

Major kneelo crew rule this spot. Jack B, Chris B, Bill L, Wino, Southpeak Brad (that is the south peak you are looking at) Jason Foster, Joe Coyne, Sam Coyne, Sean Murphy, Bob Gove and many others I can't remember right now.

i'd guess the men in grey suits [with white noses] rule this spot, everyone else is just along for the ride. A bit like cactus in sth oz.

Everything else about the place makes it sound great, but this bit's really worrying. Why is it that the only people who want to sunbathe nude at the beach are the exact same people who shouldn't? I once paddled with my 14 yr old son 100 metres along Main Beach at Byron to avoid exiting the water right next to two stark naked, morbidly obese, heavily tattooed and obviously very drunk crewcut lesbians making whoopee in the shorebreak. Almost enough to make a man take up golf. I've never seen that kind of behaviour on a fairway ... well, not during daylight anyway ... I mean, can't these people do the rest of us a favour and keep it covered?

OK, back on track now
Matt Cunningham is definitely one of the most tenured and Steve Yamamoto and Tom Linton (Dogman) are big wave chargers/regulars as well. Chris Buscemi and Hal Gant know their way around the lineup and Walt Davidson shows up when there's waves. Walt will either be on an F2K or a spoon 8)
Many other familiar faces I know by first name...Russell, Bruce, Craig...and familiar faces whose 1st names I've forgotten.
All in all it's a great place to ride kneeboards. A great wave and a long established kneeboard presence by guys who charge.

I remember a comp there way back in the 80's with Chris, Jack, Bob and a few others. Sitting on ledges on the cliff at high tide, trying to judge. Either Jack or Chris won.

I seem to remember a bit of talent on the beach on those days. Even when you surf to the shorebreak you're still too far away, so most good stuff was probably just in my imagination, anyway. And the paddle back out really punished for that close up view.
