There comes a time when an idiot has to learn the hard, legal way what copyright infringement is. Credit on photos doesn't put food on the table, and websites like that make money on people looking at photos on the site.
The scumbag didn't even mention Steen's name till a few posts later.

The same thing happens with music, images, research, patents, etc. Unfortunately we live in a society where the rush to disseminate information is so great that hardly anyone ever thinks about the impacts of their actions and how they can adversely affect the benefits of those that have worked so hard to make these images, music, etc. happen.
Case in point, I guarantee you that guy has no idea what Steen had to go through to capture those images!

Wow, I'm speechless
Even has the balls to call you "his buddy Steeno"...
I recently caught none other than Mitch's Surf Shop posting one of Bob Gove's photos on Facebook without any credit at all... called them out on it immediately.
If you see it, call them on it! Not cool.

We've been batting this issue around behind the scenes since it came up last week.
Steen Barnes and Rob Slater haven't mentioned it to us, but the admins of KSUSA are pretty offended that the pics posted on the Surfer Mag forum were probably lifted from this site.
It turns out that the Surfer Mag user is also a user from KSUSA. We reached out to him, and he responded that he has done nothing wrong, and that the photos were "fair game".
The actions of this user violates existing copyright law. That much is clear, and it demonstrates poor personal ethics beyond that. Photos are the same as any other artwork, and you simply can't use people's work without their expressed permission - barring that you should at least credit them directly in each instance.
These actions are also a violation of the terms of KSUSA Registration.
We turned to a working photo-journalist for his views, and asked him to post on the issue - Mike Fernandez. He'll follow up with his thoughts.

this is a hard one. we've all checked out some old photos on this site posted from scanned mags.
steen and slats and others do a great job in feeding us eye candy on a regular basis. I'd always assumed that you gave up hope of money once you put your image on the web.
maybe you need something more explicit on the site to guide people's behaviour. some happy snappers would be glad to see their images spread around and some would see their wallet bleeding.
as for ripping off board design... as Hynd said... we should all send Simon Anderson a buck... then Lis should score a couple.. and Crawford's estate... and George scores on quite a few IP issues, not to mention the invaluable turning me on to kneeling in the first place.
I guess I'll just have to order one of Steeno's excellent calenders for Xmas and salve my conscience that way.
