A tropical low is going to develop in the next 48 odd hours over fiji and intensify heading west over vanuatu look set to develop into a cyclone between vanuatu and the top end of new caladonia then continue on a direct path for brisbane/gold coast or there abouts keep an eye on this one, looking at the models it could be the one that hits bigtime just what we need after the new year shitstorm it looks like it's going to be a big bugger too, so get prepared

Been nothing but big low pressure systems sailing across the upper half of Australia all summer. Monsoon. Sea surface temps are very warm. Ideal conditions for cyclones: probably why we have a bunch of them hanging off our coastline right now.

Part of me likes the idea of big weather. The rest of me doesn't want the destruction, dislocation and disruption likely to accompany a big storm.

Think I'll go bolt the garden furniture to the wall and get the blackout kit ready.

we may have dodged a bullet, latest models show it tracking north so we could just be in for some intense east swell and howling on shores with blue bottles thrown in for good measure, can't say the same for nth. qld though with anthony set to reform and cross the coast and this next one to follow and possibly cross around the same place a few days later not a good place to be at the moment

Still; more waves is always nice :)

The quantity of waves is less a problem than the vast number of people wanting to ride them.

True too true. Cyclonic swells usually mean south easters, point breaks and manic crowds. I managed to get into the water at Noosa last swell, 2 hours for 5 waves. :(
Each wave was a slalom course through the wreckage, not a lot of fun. Not to mention dropins.

Looks like swell tommorrow, with luck the crowd may have got their fill of waves today.
Was crowded 2 weeks ago but got one of my best ever Noosa waves-waited for the big, wide ones with noone on them.

Entire suburbs in three north Queensland cities will be evacuated today as Cyclone Yasi powers towards the coast, bringing destructive winds, torrential rain, and massive storm surges.
