Kneeboard Surfing USA Community Forum

i have been a stand up surfer for 20 years - after having back surgery 6 years ago, my good sessions have gotten less frequent, and I think Kneeboard might allow for more fun

anyway, i think i am leaning towards a more traditional kneeboard (fish/twinfin?-steve lis/steve brom)

i am 240 lbs., and 6'4" tall

i have been riding a 7'4" Mike Hynson fish and occasionally i will take a kneeboard ride on that - it works rather well, and i like it

i bought some traditional Churchill fins for my feet - are those OK for a converter from stand-up surfing?

my you are a big boy, a minimum of 6' x 23 1/2 - 24" and 2 7/8 - 3" thick
and keep a bit of meat in the rails & tail, easier to catch waves and at your weight you should have no problem burying a rail... welcome to barrel world

If you're 6'4", a board as long as you are tall wouldn't be out of order at all, 23" to 24" wide is pretty common as well. Lots of us use Churchill fins. Maybe one of the other big guys on site would have a used one available. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Or maybe you could order a custom from Hynson via Sean Mattison, www.michaelhynsonsurfboards.com

I am about the same weight although not as tall (6') - although a big build you can imagine the profile - jokes aside, I agree with KenM on the length of a board to suit you & AB on the width and volume of the board. I currently am riding a Flashpoint 6' long 24"wide & 3"thick, it absolutely fly's with a bit of power behind it, paddles brilliantly into waves - this is my preferred board, when there isn't a lot of push in a wave I prefer my Parkes, which is also 6'long & 24" wide but a little thinner in volume around 2 7/8", but had cantered fixed fins put in for easier turning-although not as fast as the flashy this board can generate power with quick power turns, that's enough crap for now, I'm sure someone else will pitch in with they're experiences and advice. I'm 6'4" 215... riding 6' x 24" in small waves... 6'4" x 24 all-arounder... and up to 6'8" in Juice.

6'2" and maybe a little heavier riding a 6'4"x25 3/4 wide and 3" thick Friar Tuck i would be looking at a EPS foam board for more float.Good luck with it and welcome to world of doggie styling

Hi Eric , I'm a lot taller and slightly heavier than you . One important question is where do you surf? I have boards ranging from 6foot 24 wide , to 6foot 2inch and 26 wide depending on what conditions are like Sydney . For really big days or over seas holidays I always take a 6f-10i along. So anyway all the info so far isn't bad but with-out knowing what surf you have , can't be answered properly .

Does that 26" wide seem too much? Is it a Tri or quad?
