Hey all,
My brother hooked me up with a vintage Sunset 5' x20". Been surfing south OC for the last 30 years and haven't seen too many kneeboarders in the lineup. Any good spots for my first time would be appreciated.
Thanks! Jeff[/img]

Congrats Jeff! My first board was a Sunset fish. I don't know OC but if there's a healthy crew of kneelos down here at Blacks if you ever make it down this way.

Kneelo Cove. It's in Huntington Beach in front of the Hilton hotel, generally speaking. Enter the parking lot at Beach Blvd on Sat/Sunday before 7am, and it's free parking. Go toward the pier until your in front of the Hilton.
Saturday is a sure thing usually.

And when you make it to San Diego, look me up. It sounds like you inherited a dinosaur-5' long and only 20" wide? Unless you are smaller than Bill Lerner or Brad Colwell you need something wider and longer. I have a couple of fishes in my backyard you can choose from for free. It's not the first time I've made this offer, and it still stands to anyone looking to get a board at the ultimate price: free! Just trying to spread the word and get someone fired up to kneeride. Besides, it would be nice to see someone else on an orange kneeboard with handles!!

Thanks Bob, that is very kind of you! I'll post some picks soon... but you are right... it is very vintage. I am 5'11" and and 230 lbs, so it sounds like I will sink it. If I get down that way I will give you a call.

Also thanks to the guys in HB for the info... I lived in HB for the first 8 years of my life and then for a short while in '95.

Aloha, Jeff

Uh-I'm 5' 10" 155 lbs., maybe you should contact Big Tony or Fred Rodriguez to see if they have any boards they want to sell (no offense guys!). My boards are 2 5/8 thick, but you are welcome to try one anytime. If you check out the alblum photos, you can see we make a lot of Mexico runs, it's a great proving ground for new boards. Good luck! Kneeboarders in OC

After a couple of years getting very frustrated at Bolsa Chica SB, In Jan 2011 I started up at the Cove area south of the pier at HB City Beach. The Cove group are great people. The waves are sometimes very fast hollow and ripe for kneeboard pickin'. You will feel very welcome there. The vibe is very positive in the lot, on the beach and in the water and you'll really look forward to Saturday mornings. You'll meet the best kneelos and nicest people in the world there and an old guy like me, just happy to be able to paddle out and catch a wave or two. Fridays seem very uncrowded, probably not in the Summer though.
See you there
