In Search of the Holy Grail

Post by stevea »

Tomorrow i will visit what is said to be the best wave in the world ,the late great Peter Crawford is purported to have surfed a 27 second tube ride there i and anyone who ever saw him surf can believe that ,he told me it is a wave i must surf before i die .
My mission is to film it but if a window of opportunity arises ie if its not the 8ft expected maybe just maybe i will get to surf a wave thats been on my bucket list since that day 12 years ago PC told me the story ,how i wish that i was filming the kneelo elite maybe one day ya it will all come together and we can blow some minds

Have fun Steve, and be safe! Look forward to seeing the footage when you get back. I've heard it's almost impossible to stay in the lineup on a swell this size, big rip right down the point, almost too fast too paddle back up again.

HOW is this season shaping up!!! We're only in June and we've had 3 big ones already. And there's a filthy one behind it for next week too

In Search of the Holy Grail

Post by stevea »

Well i made it back and if Desert Point isnt in the top 10 best waves in the world then ive been nowhere n seen nothing along with the 100 or so world class surfers out including Joel Parkinson,Taj, Adrian Buchan + 8 of the NN crew and a supporting cast made up of Brazos ,Sepps and Oz schredders

Thanks AB i did get wet didnt get behind a lip but knew i was under one for a 150m blur on a baby 4fter just before the tide started the run out
Tom the paddle wasnt bad the crowd was, one brazo actually thought the macho meter would spike if he snaked an old overweight kneeboarder

Bruce i was on the boat with the NN crew im sure Brett will fill you in on a couple of what goes on ,on the boat stays on the boat after all it was Tookies bucks day

As for video well i now know its basically a land only option ,the boat couldnt hold position long enough to get set or capture the whole ride
but the minds eye recorded it all why Bulls wave could take half an hour to explain but in a couple of words 30sec of pure grit and determination which probably saved those foolish enough to think he was a target from a life threatening situation
So if your a half serious kneeboard surfer Desert Point is a must for the bucket list ,but dont wait till your as old as me cause im just not sure our poor old heart s were meant to get into triple figures for that long unless a nurse is on hand

Stevea

Nurse? I'll ask around at the hospital, I know there's few who'll be keen.
Unfortunately they are all blokes.

But don't worry, they shave their legs :)

Let me know how many we should send ....

heh

great that you get such great waves, you deserve it I think

Headwax, the rumours about steve's preferences are just that, rumours,
i put it down to too much alcohol, poor eye sight due to age,
bad lighting, and home sickness
but we've all suffered from these problems when we're away.....
haven't we :?:

Geez Steve your coping a smacking here, I will jump to your defence every time I have caught up in Indo there hasn't been a benchong in sight - mind you the benchongs are much prettier in Bali, so perhaps I haven't noticed...nah no sausages & meatballs on Steve's menu!

Currently conspiring to do a trip to at least two of the holy grails in 2012, will try to sneak it past border security with a sweetner of a Christmas Bali this year with the whole tribe. Will you be around in Dec/Jan or are you heading back to Oz?
