bruce, raro's a small island with only a few places to surf the pick is probably airports, so named as it at the end of the runway on the west side of the island. Take boots, it's shallow with sea urchins so take care coral hopping. The reef is close to shore all the way around the island so it's easy to see the breaks. Just be cool, smile and don't wave hog. This time of year will probably only be breaking on the east / sth & west side,. There are some breaks on the nth side around Avarua?? i think the main town is called. In front of Trader jacks is a channel with a ship wreck and a left breaks off that. You can sit in the bar and have a beer and watch the action. Unreal food in the cooks, the sailing club was a stand out down at muri lagoon. Local tip... stay off the road on friday nights, they all get pissed and drive, well they used to anyway. That doesn't mean you shouldn't go out. Huge pissed cook islanders are a riot
once you've had black you'll never go back!!!

Hey bruce,
as AB says Airports is shallow, really shallow!
Av Avarua is a shorter wave but really intense and holds solid swell. Make sure you get out to all spots on the incoming tide and get out soon after it turns, unless you like it dry!
See wanna surf for directions, its a long paddle across the lagoon, so save some arms for the paddle back in against the out going tide.
