Advice for a begining kneeboarder.

Post by slucepan »

I am kind of new to kneeboarding and was wondering what boards would be good to start on?
I am a middle aged surfer about 6'4" and a bit north of 260 pounds.
My surfing sites are basically south orange county CA.
I was thinking of shaping a board for my self and was wondering what would be good to start with?
I had noticed that there is no how to start learning to knee ride videos on the net.
It seems to me that a video might generate some new riders to the sport.
Then again it might worsen the population of our favorite surf spots.

Thanks in advanced for the advice and hang lose.

I am 6'5" 250lbs.

I ride a 6 foot swallow tail fish by 23 inches, and 2.5 inches thick

Flatter rocker with slight concave going into V near the tail.

It is a basic board that works in everything, small to big, mushy to hollow.
Great starting board.

Have been riding since '84. Started on boards like this and have come back to them.

Some others can give you ideas on fin placement.

Thank you for all of the information.
I found out that California knee boards have the fins spaced about 5" from the tail and Australian style knee boards have the fins about 18" up. It all depends on whether you ride more on the tail or more from the middle of the board.
As soon as I get some stuff worked out I will be seeing you guys in the lineup one of these days.
