Deadly shark attack at Vandenbergs Surf Beach

Post by Gaviota Swinger »

Almost 2 years to the day at the same beach as the SB bodyboarder who suffered a fatal white attack. Just happened. Another surfer saw it happen and swam to him while his buddy called 911. Got him to the beach but was too late. SB area has had quite a few sightings lately. Pacific Coast Shark Research is a website that compiles all the reported sightings in California.
Rest in peace,bro....

Access to Surf Beach is closed until further notice and officials are asking the public to avoid the area after a 38-year-old man was killed by a shark while surfing Tuesday morning, according to Vandenberg Air Force Base Public Affairs.

The base says the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office has contacted a shark bite expert to confirm the injury.

A friend of the injured surfer called 911 just before 11 a.m.

The friend was performing CPR on the victim when crews from the Vandenberg Fire Department arrived.

Vandenberg officials say they will work with Santa Barbara County officials to reopen the beach once the investigation is complete.

The base says the victim's name is being withheld until 24 hours after his family is notified

Yeah I got a phone call from a friend of mine at 1:16 pm, he had told me the bad news. He had called me earlier in the day and said he was going out at Surf Beach, but he had got a bad feeling about going out, he changed his mind. Wow he got lucky and trusted his gut feeling............

I wonder if it's the one Rob Salfen sees cruising Jalama? :(

Looks like the world is picking up the story and my photo. Pretty unusual that there are two fatal attacks at the same beach, same month and only two years apart. But, you saw it here first!

There was a paddle out at Jalama 12:00 pm for "Fran" his local nickname. I went out to surf at 9:30am and just stayed out for the paddle. For Francisco P. Solorio a good friend of all.
