Yeah, that's Jim. Always recognizable from his left flipper hanging off his board. He surfs that place better than any other kneelo I know there, and I sure surf it a lot, too, but nothing close to as often as Jim. He's a real barrel hound who hunts for the inside ones that double up, often getting caught inside as a result. But no mattah to him! He has also recovered from a very serious injury there last year in a shallow reef collision that had him out of the water for many months. He tells me he's still taking it easy there, but you can see it hasn't dimmed his abilities to any noticable degree. He always surfs Jon Mel shaped Freelines.

Which surf magazine was it that he had a cover shot on back in the '70's? Can't remember...

Looks like he cheated death again on that one: Did you see the smiling skull on the wave face? Nicely done.

Jim Marty -- Surfer Magazine, Feb 1978 and above Mar 23, 2014

Love that happy skull foam on the face Paul 8) Didn't notice that before..

I originally thought this was Paul Wuslich because I remember seeing a picture of him with similar flipper off the rail in the tube style in one of the magazines back in the day too.

I think the caption was something like "bending to fit the flow"
Red board, I think at the same spot...

Tried, but can't find the pic. I know it's posted on KSUSA :)
