Just wanted to say hi to all the kneelers out there. just joined the site the other day. Started Kneeling back in the early 70's at Sunset Cliffs and OB. Thanks to my buddy Glenn. Tore up a lot of old longboards back then to make kneeboards till we could afford real blanks. Thanks Mitch at Mitch's Surf Shop. Also Thanks to Steve Lis for coming up with such a great board design, He inspired me A lot.
Anyways Keep on Kneelin,
Mike

I was fortunate to live in San Diego in the early 80s till 87". Lots of great waves at OB, Imperial Beach, and spots in La Jolla. I may have shared a session with you without knowing it! Steve Lis and I had a mutual friend, (Chris Taylor) and I was able to get a board from Steve back in the late 70s. Thanks for letting me reminisce about the good ol days.

Yeah we might have surfed together at Lobster Lounge in La Jolla, Garbage, Abbs, or Newbreak at the Cliffs as I was still kneeboarding in the 80's and 90's. For me the 70's were a great time to be in the short board design phase. I designed my first "Bonzer Fish" right after I made a Standard Bonzer Kneeboard back in late 72 or early 73 . It had milder double barrel concaves between the fins and keel fins foiled on the inside and flat on the outside. Some of my knee buddies freaked out when they saw it. I wound up making a lot of versions of that board with the concaves. I also wound up owning several standard Bing Bonzers from Mike Eaton and also the Bonzer 360's when I wasn't Kneeling. I Still have a doublewinger quad fish and a sweet Bud Mc Cray round pin quad in my quiver of boards.
Any Ways Keep on Kneelin
Aloha,
Mike

Here's another pic of my fish and one that my brother made its a standup quad. He's a Swamis Local Boy. My other brother makes tricked out carbon fiber RC gliders. The three of us use to make stuff under the DownSouth label starting in the late 70's. Barry Snyder remembers, he lived up the street from us.
Aloha,
Mike

Growing up in nearby Pacific Beach I also started making my own kneeboards by stripping down old longboards. These were old boards found thrown out in the trash. I do now wonder what gems I might have torn up.
