Hi all,
I am looking at getting into Kneeboard surfing. I started out short boarding around 20 years ago and about 10 years ago had a spinal cord injury that for the most part ended that. Since then I have stuck to either a longboard or a bodyboard. Both are great, but I am thinking a kneeboard would be a ton of fun here in the Outer Banks.
Does anyone know of any east coast shapers or anywhere to look for a used board on the east coast? Everything I find is either West Coast or AU. I am not looking at spending a ton for my first board.
Also, considering shaping or re-shaping a board...thoughts? Maybe get something something like an early 80s thruster sand it down, move the fins up, reinforce the deck, and re glass. IDK that might just be ruining a classic board, lol.
Any other tips or advice?
Thanks!

Hey Mike,
I live near Charlotte and surf the Buxton area a couple of times a year. Scott Busbey at Natural Art in Buxton shaped a board for me copying my Flashpoint. It came out great. He's shaped a couple other guys' kneeboards as well. I'd look him up.
Good luck,

I should clarify...
He didn't just copy, but made a custom for Hatteras, based on my Flashpoint.

Thanks man! Yeah I'm familiar with his shapes. I'm hoping to not have to drop the $$ on a full custom shape for my first kneeboard though. Really thinking I might to have to Frankenstein something just to get my feet wet. Appreciate the info though!

Where do you live?
You can certainly ride my boards when I'm out there.

I actually live just over the Wright Memorial in Currituck, so I typically surf Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills. I make it further south when the swell and my free time line up. Definitely feel free to contact me when you're in the Banks I would really appreciate trying one out. I am thinking for now I am going to grab some sort of soft beater board to start with. I've found a few shapes that look promising. Then worst case I have a soft board for my kids when they are old enough, which will be soon!
Take care!
