Looking to get into Kneeboarding on East Coast

Hi all,
I am looking at getting into Kneeboard surfing. I started out short boarding around 20 years ago and about 10 years ago had a spinal cord injury that for the most part ended that. Since then I have stuck to either a longboard or a bodyboard. Both are great, but I am thinking a kneeboard would be a ton of fun here in the Outer Banks.
Does anyone know of any east coast shapers or anywhere to look for a used board on the east coast? Everything I find is either West Coast or AU. I am not looking at spending a ton for my first board.
Also, considering shaping or re-shaping a board...thoughts? Maybe get something something like an early 80s thruster sand it down, move the fins up, reinforce the deck, and re glass. IDK that might just be ruining a classic board, lol.
Any other tips or advice?
Thanks!
