How often do you get hit hard by your board

Post by harry8 »

I am just wondering how common a problem is this for you all.
Daily like ever time you go surfing
Once a week or once every 7 times you go out
Once a month or once every 7 to 30 times you go out
Once a year
Once in a blue moon as in almost never
Any comments will be appreciated.

If you're getting hit by your board on a regular basis, you need to work on getting some separation between you and the board during wipeouts. This is an important survival skill to develop.

I probably get hit by my board a couple times a year. I've three memorable instances of severe contact, in all of these instances I knew things were going badly before I suffered the consequences. They all seem to correlated to tube riding and not being able to get board separation as Joe noted.

Always an interesting topic , we had a good thread on tube ride bailouts a few years ago ( thats always when I get "cracked") but even after four pages of conversation I can't tell you that I feel like I got it totally figured to a science. Even though many of us have years and decades of knee riding it would still be great to hear any tips and nuances of escaping a fiberglass flogging on any type wave

Hit hard? Once in a blue moon, but I feel it's often luck that it doesn't happen more often. I always try to be aware of where my board is when I fall, either doing my best to hold onto it or trying to stay "out of the back" of the wave while the board is pulled toward shore. But there are often times when I know my board is around me somewhere underwater, and I am most often curled up, covering my head and trying to brace for impact (which still hardly ever comes).
I'm not influenced by the past; I change it!
