What works & what doesn't and in what type of conditions. Got a "secret" only you and your shaper know???? Post it here... we can keep it quiet ;-)

My 6'0" is an incredible board that I've grown to really enjoy in a variety of conditions here in Santa Cruz and up and down the coast (same design was also tested for 2 weeks in Indo). After riding it as a quad, I've dropped in a box and dialed in a fifth fin.

6'0" x 22 3/4"
nose: 17 1/2"
tail: 16 3/4"

fin placement (measured from tail)
front set: 22 1/2" w/ Futures fin system FT1 5 1/8" depth
rear set: 17 1/2" w/ " " " AM2 4 3/4" depth
center fin: 10 1/2" w/ Fins Unlimited box with a 4" generic fin

About the only change I would make so far would be to narrow the nose....but the other option would to be to leave this design as a small wave board and then to design a more racey design for bigger, more powerful waves. Something in the 6'3" - 6'5" range with a more pulled nose but still retaining the overall width.

thanks for your thoughts, I wasn't going to add any more rocker overall, assuming that this would slow the board down? I can see your point about moving the fins 1 1/2" up, as it effectively splits the added 3 inches between nose and tail. Thanks also for the fin tips, I am going to use a box for centre and glass on side fins, start on the large side and grind them as I see fit!, can always fit fcs plugs or similar when settled on fin position.
cheers

Saw the longer KB topic and it just rang a bell in my fuzzy little head.

Back in 1976 I experimented with a 5'10" (gigantic for that time; I was riding a 5'2" KB) tri fin: large center fin with 2 small side fins.

This was built as a standup board by an acquaintence in Hawaii.... Mike Diffenderfer. While the board didn't work as a KB, it was the first time I was on anything with that amount of length.

The Diffenderfer had a crowned deck - dead give away that it wasn't KB-friendly. But did catch some big barrels at Moss Landing; had to point it in the direction I wanted to go - no hard turns or cutting back.
