What works & what doesn't and in what type of conditions. Got a "secret" only you and your shaper know???? Post it here... we can keep it quiet ;-)

cool lads

i take your points :!:

I will try not to quote that dilitante Parkes again and trust that even Steens placement over number opinion lacks credibility against a THRUSTER - that is if im ever lucky enough to own/surf on a "THRUSTER" rather than just a "thruster" like i had

perhaps ...yes thats it...... a THRUSTER AND NO FLIPPERS

unless it all

= dogma

careful lads i was just agreeing with stemple and he was agreeing with eq - are we all wrong?

Scott - the wholness of the board comment I made relates to the idea of all the elements working together

Brooklyn wisdom:

"You ride da cyclone at da beach"

At least till they tore it down leaving coney Island hot dogs in its place

deconstructing the myth that the "greatest roller coaster ever built" resided
ONLY
in brooklyn

and now you find them everywhere, even in Sparrow and Friends

everybody has a version of their favorite ride
and engage in shameless name-dropping to make their point
so I will quote Joe the Mutt from Utopia Parkway (U-ta-puh in Brooklyneze)

"How can you call THAT a surfboard?? Its so small it fits in muh trunk. We're not gonna get any chickie wi that! They gonna think we got small dicks!"

so even though the shortboard revolution had swept through Brooklyn
the gum chewing, poodle skirt, "I left my underwear home cos I have this hot bikini on" , "but I'm NOT wearing wet clothes home" had no clue...
a surfboard was a big manley thing, and nothing else
and to ride in that Cadillac convert the board HAD to stick high out of its carrying place, shoved nose down to the floorboards out the back seat
spray painted matching colors to the caddy with auto detail paint

and even in Brooklyn
when asked "aren't you boys gonna surf?"
the reply was 'Nah, we need longer walls to get this baby going"
and the ONLY thing on our minds was how to get THEM wet

too good mate..

once again your timing is perfect

and whether we talk humour or surfing..timing is everything

hart

PS

Bill,

I want more pastrami sandwiches and doggy bus rides..I need a Jackie Gleeson fix

PPS

New York is a special place..with a special accent on the American phonetic

If I were to say to you that Michael Novakov's accent on the Sydney vernacular reminded me of what New Yorkers do to English..would you have an idea how he speaks?

ha..

:)

michael is so knowledgeable..and such a friend

..and he can surf

he just talks like a New Yorker from Sydney

2 funny again..

i think to slow to understand the wise

Post by john - »

there are no traffic lights in Barwon Heads

so sassy street talk passes us by in their rides- without stopping

there isnt even a wall long enough for graffiti writers to vent on

so we surf - free of boredom - in all conditions - supporting a variety of ideas

i do however like PJ harvey's song about a roof top in Brooklyn and someone saying something important - but then she was Nick Caves Muse for The Boatman's Call - and theres never that much thats truly important going on here

in general a big city is a problem for all but those who are their to help

so we care little for accents and or even meaning

motivation however ..............!

Willi - truly i didnt quite get it bit since it followed a set of posts i was involved in i assumed perhaps more than i should have.....so hart i cant share your

I think you need to know what the definition of IS is
Bill Clinton
Dorje,

My very first fire with FDNY I ascended the aerial ladder from the street below to the elevated Bruckner Expy carrying "the can" (2 1/2 gallons pressurized water) to an obvious, by the column of smoke, car fire. As was proceedure, water went up the ladder first, and brother I flew up them rungs. The scene I was confronted with was a convertible that had been rear ended by a bus, mother and father in the front buckets, three children in the back seat, burning to death because the full tank of gas (petrol) had ruptured on impact showering the occupants with fuel, then igniting. Its hard to imagine the futility of rushing an inferno under the protection of a 1/4 inch, 2 1/2 gallon fire stream, but the screams coming from that car drove me forward, till I was tackled by the second man up that ladder, Joe the Mutt. He knocked me to the ground and rolled me away. We stood there helpless till the engine company managed to stretch their booster line up the aerial and put the fire out.
When I left work at the end of the tour I wasn't sure I would ever return. Some jobs just ask too much of the human psyche. But Joe got my address and showed up at my apartment and as he walked through the door and took a look around he looked toward the corner and exclaimed
"How can you call THAT a surfboard?? Its so small it fits in muh trunk. We're not gonna get any chickie wi that! They gonna think we got small dicks!" He put on a huge smile, said "where's the coffee?" as he pulled a flask of fine Irish whiskey from his jacket. Spent some time convincing me to return to work, but never referred to the incident, and every time I tried to go there, changed the subject... to surfing, something he knew absolutely nothing about. But instinctively, I think he knew I knew absolutely nothing about death. After about two hours he left, having extracted from me a promise to cruise brooklyn with an APPROPRIATE surfboard, that by the way I would supply. HE would supply the convertible AND the girls.
Hopefully you understand that without humor life grinds our bones

PS
the cyclone IS a brooklyn landmark
the asterik now is "wooden", Its the "greatest wooden roller coaster ever built"
but no one to date has challenged the Coney Island hot dog

Never cease to be amazed at what/where this site takes us,and.....that triggers memories long buried from another world?[think time-past]
Was born in the bronx, and the island[coney] was a destination on hot summer days. The cyclone!!!a monumental monster.Put the fear of the lord in a little kids bones...
Hot dogs....would that be nathans???Hard to remember :? Went down quite well with a yo-hoo [yogi berra]choclate drink,or a nedicks orange drink.

And after chatting with hart on the phone, another triggered memory.
Hadn't heard that sydney twang since the late 60's when vince bunker[sydney area]came through this area and changed our perspective,[the other way also]An interesting conversation for sure...Two common languages..Not qiute sure what we accomplished-however it worked out just fine
Hart, would love to sit and drink acold one with ya ...As long as the hounds were well fed and lethargic..

And dorje,Looked up your little universe..What a nice area,In some ways it remind me of my own little town.Quite different, yet quite similiar.1200 souls here..till the summer.
Sister cities for sure-good stuff for sure. :)

Willi

to be sure that is life and as noted i feel big cities only offer something to those with big hearts - there to help - the rest is a struggle and a lot of too and throw, trying to be happy in what were actually not programmed for

thanks for the context

cool K-man

Just got back from visiting my daughter who is living in Santa Monica with my wife's family. She is working at a surf shop so I checked the board rack.

Some chunky Channel Island retro singel fins (5'10" & 6'2") ...bow wow wow. Also modern fish style shaped standup shapes. Then there were a couple retro fish shapes with keel fins. Basic template but keel fin template was..........ugh.

Not a KB in sight but my daughter said they would be interested in carrying a few. I'll be providing them with info on contacting KB shapers - both here and in the 'other' hemisphere.
