Phillip Island is always ready to host a future world titles
The 2002 Worlds were going to be held there but I understand the Phillip Is Boardriders (standups) barred it..
That's why they were taken to North Queensland..pity, because the Island is much more consistant than the Sunshine Coast.
Seems the annual Island Classic was enough for the crew down there.

OK lets try to clear the air, if possible. As I understand it the worlds titles were awarded to the US with Northern Cal - specifically the Santa Cruz region being the likely area.
KSUSA has a steering committee as I understand it and I expect they will make decisions with regard to venues.
Its great that there are so many passinate people out there but it takes more than having an idea for a good venue to run an event the size of a kneelo World titles.
To give you guys an idea - check this out.
John Thompson was the main man in South Africa for the first one his hardly been heard of since.
Mark Abel was running the Waka's when they were in Wollongong and I think it took it such a toll on him and his family he wasn't seen at a comp for years afterward.
Murray Weir was and is the exception to every rule and New Zealand kneelo's surely appreciate all he does.
Pete Holman ran the Worlds on the Sunshine coast - gooooooooone.
I trust the guys in Tahiti survived the aftermath.
To clear up things regarding Phillip Is., it was put up as the 2002 venue without full consultation with Neil Luke and his team. Neil nipped it in the bud early and said not enough time to organise it and that the Island crew needed to put their hand up and not have the event thrust upon them.
So unless you have a spare 40 hours a week for 12 months and 10 000 dollars you dont need - leave it to KSUSA to call it, by all means offer to help out, you can always do with more Indians, Cheifs are a dime a dozen just ask me I am one of the worst.

Too funny, Hart! Next time, I'll add a Winston Churchill audio clip 'WE SHALL NEVA SURRENDA!'
As I re-read the thread, it was... OK, a bit corny.
Anyhow, Jamie's right. The steering committee will negotiate this. BTW, if that's Jamie from Avalon, nice to see you hitting the keyboard more! Best wishes from our family!
I thought the NZ venue was amazing. One great setup after another. And kudos to all that pull off these events.
In the States, it's Tom Linn, Jack Beresford, Don Harris, Mark Robertson, Surfhorn, John Mel, Jon Manss, and many others that pour all those hours into what we've done so far.
Finally, Mr. Burpo, Lunada Bay?!?!? That would make the front pages INTERNATIONALLY!

"Here's the latest news in the Pleasure Point surf contest debate, by onfitness mag editor Joseph Grassadonia..."
A friggin' tourist who moved here in the 70's - had to be kicked out of the water numerous times.
If there is to be a set of rules to limit contests, then KB Worlds would stand a better chance than most contests. They could weed out the small, understaffed/underfunded/no-name contests.
But we're also dealing with two Santa Cruz governmental entities: County of and City of. And they can seldom agree on anything.
But thats enough for now. We'll have to survey the landscape and see which way the wind is blowing.

kbing since plywood days
Good luck.
Hope you get it right. No one has to tell you that a lot rides on KSUSA's commitment to host the event. I think we can all breathe a sigh of relief that the proposal for a 2005 world's was scotched. Takes a lot of time and effort to get one off the ground. Hat's off to those that enter the fray to arrange one.
Good hunting

To be honest, it annoys me when people sprout off endlessly about things when they have little real knowledge or info. This entire thread is based on one article pulled from one place. There is no substantive and reliable research or inquiry. Only speculation and bullshit. People jumping on the bandwagon.
I will contact the City and County of Santa Cruz directly. I will the get the real scoop on what their policy is and what rights we might have. I do know that it is possible to get water rights. It is just a matter of money. Once I have hard, credible information I will report back to this forum and to the KSUSA. In the meantime I would appreciate it if people don't diseminate misinformation. Please consider the following facts:
1. With the approval of the City and County of Santa Cruz, we have tentatively scheduled the week of December 7-14, 2006 (Monday thru Saturday) for the event. The City and County have already placed us on their calendar for those dates
2. The event would consist of 6 days(not 14!!). The first three days would be at the Pleasure Point venue and the last three days would be at the Steamers Lane venue. (thereby avoiding wearing out our welcome at any one spot). We would only surf half of one weekend day (Saturday).
All of this is still tentative. However, I will not recommend Santa Cruz as the venue to the KSUSA unless we have very clear cut priority in the water.
As I said before, I will contact the Santa Cruz authorities and determine exactly what rights we have. Once I have that information I will report back. In the meantime, please don't spread false information(i.e. 14 days at Steamers Lane), etc, etc.

Good stuff, Tom. Dates look interesting. Great to see the "world circuit" of kneeboard comps taken into consideration.
Please note guys:
The International Kneeboarding Association has a formal process for determining where the World's will be held. The World's is travelling event between the countries that 1) have resources and experience to host the event; 2) put their hand up to do so; 3) who's "turn" it may be. The kneeboarding "World's" has travelled between SA, Australian and NZ venues on a rostered basis, with Tahiti an exception to replace SA who fell down on point 1) late in the day.
The guys from the US put their hands up in 2004 and made a strong case for 1) above and a U.S organised WKC2006 was accepted at a general meeting of all (interested and elegible kneeboarders) at the AGM in Tahiti. We need now to support the efforts of the KSUSA in getting WKC2006 together.
