good to see a big swell!i'm sitting here occasionally glancing through the window at very stormy 10' seas smashing our local bigwave spot,with a nice cup of tea,ugg boots on and the fire going.BRING ON WINTER

just dropped my son Curtis off at Cowries.
4 to 5 ft with perfect offshore conditions- sick barrels!
but i havnt mention the 20 odd guys, 4 land photographers, one water photographer, and the odd pro surfer that is out there!
me ,i am waiting for the tide to go out a bit-there is a pointbreak right next to Cowries, just as big-but with no one out!

What fun O.B. waves we've had today (4/15) and yesterday!

Fun for offbeat reasons

*wasn't expecting jackshit, and yesterday was off/sideshore and fairly asskickin' overhead, steep peaks. Overhead windswell...whooomffff! Actually got ragdolled & had to "relax" (not panic). Suprise session #1!

*today: again wasn't expecting squat, and we had fun little glassy tubes (kneeboard heaven). Hit it when it was so-so, and it rapidly improved--don't you love that? Carpe Diems-ville! But the coolest thing was that it got REALLY packed along this little stretch...I'm talking bodies every ten feet...yet somehow there was a totally good vibe, lots of hooting and calling in, laughter...

Neither day was all that great, but still soooo fun.

Is that you DarcyM on the funky colored KB in the pics? What's the water temp there? I notice the kneeboarder was in full suit with hood, but a couple of fellas surfing in boardies.

Hee Hee, that KBer with the hood, blue Duck Feet and soul patch are SO old skool. I guess OB hasn't changed that much over the years...

How's the jetty at Dog Beach breaking these days? That right could get so juicy...Wish I could be there.

Just got out of the water about two hours ago. The south is starting to show, and the water is C O L D !!!!! (50 decrees). Wind didn't come up until about 11 am.

That wasn't me, I was shooting pics. Kneeboarder is Bob Welch. Water temp was between (guess) 59 and 61 degF. The sun was out and it was nice, but there was one guy who paddled out in trunks. He was either ... thick skinned ... stupid ...just out of jail and desperate for a surf (this is OB, after all

) .... or left his wetsuit at his ex-gf's house and was afraid to go get it.

I apologize profusely. I do not know Bob. My comments obviously came across to you as "sneery", and that was definitely not my intention. My comments about what he was wearing were intended somewhat as a compliment, and not meant as derogatory in any fashion whatsoever.

In fact, the pix speak for themselves...Bob obviously rips!!! My fault for not pointing this out as well.

I believe "old skool" is still the best school. I have been KB'ing since 1976, and plied my trade at OB for many years, among other SD breaks.

So, in closing, I again apologize (TO BOB) if my words were misinterpreted.

If any problems remain, you can PM me. I believe this is a better venue for hashing out such issues.

Did a long session at rin-cron-aka cron-crete.!-2 ft glassy,great condits.Small S. under small NW.Plenty of backwash to keep it interesting.One of those places that the wave will change directions on any given moment

Good practice.
Seemed the south was filling in later in the day,nothing in town tomorrow,wiil go there in the morning.
Had a hunch OB might have been fun this morning??????

I surfed OB friday (head high) and this morning (shoulder high). Friday was better with a bit more size and energy. The local wind swell was kinda messing things up abit. If you got lucky you could get a decent wave or two, but mostly one those spring time maintenance surfs. Good amount of people in the water but it was broken up so people spread out pretty well. Water is really cold, three or four duck dives and you got the old ice cream headache without a hood. I was holding off on buying a new suit but maybe getting a new one in the spring time isn't such a bad idea.

Kman did you surf cron at low tide. I think it works the best at a minus tide. If you walk down the beach to the south end there is a cave. This cave is the extension of a normal fault that is assiociated with the San Andreas. Fault runs through the Presidio across the golden gate and through the headlands. You can see fault gauge and slickened sides (actual fault slide plane) in the ceiling of the cave its pretty cool.
